Re: Thoughts on 42 Tiger????
One of the best V-bottom boats ever built!
|
Re: Thoughts on 42 Tiger????
Straight bottoms are nice boats. Twin-steps are nice as well untill they get to 95MPH or more. Then, they are --------.(I,d rather not say).

Re: Thoughts on 42 Tiger????
What is the weight with c-g cabin?
|
Re: Thoughts on 42 Tiger????
I know a guy who has a 1999 non-stepped Tiger with 1,000's and six drives and it porpoises ALOT. The boats slows down like 9mph just to stop the porpoising.
Personally, I think the twin-stepped Cigs (38 and 42) fly alot more level and require alot less tabs than the non-stepped Cigs |
Re: Thoughts on 42 Tiger????
There was a sweet one on ebay this week with 850's and 3A's that is down by LOTO I think, it was sweet when I had it looked at in the fall of 2004. It was at Martin in Ft. Lauderdale, it's one of the Paper Boy boats, it's on a aluminum Myco.

Re: Thoughts on 42 Tiger????
fastboats.com has a 42' non-step from Chicago, (fresh water), called "Speed Pass".
One of the cleanest used boats I've ever seen. |
Re: Thoughts on 42 Tiger????
I have always had cats until I bought mine a few years ago.
Wife and kids love the room and I must admit it is a wave cruser. First boat I have owned were my wife always feel safe and is not tell me to slow down. |
Re: Thoughts on 42 Tiger????
No problems, solid as a rock, and the best damned wave crusher I have ever been on.

Re: Thoughts on 42 Tiger????
Thanks everyone! What about XR drives? They seem a little light for that big of a boat. I am looking for 85mph range. (what HP would be good)
Thanks SK |
Re: Thoughts on 42 Tiger????
Twin-step 575SCi/XR/ITS will get you there, speed-wise.

Re: Thoughts on 42 Tiger????
I have a '99 available with 900 Zuhls and 6's. We've gone through everything on it. Very nice and a great price!

Hey NK any big AIR pics? Need a good pic for the desktop.

Re: Thoughts on 42 Tiger????
To get to 85 mph on a non stepped Tiger your going to need about 750-800 hp and something better than an XR. The XR will be ok but you will need a spare or two handy...trust me
|
Re: Thoughts on 42 Tiger????
@ That HP would 3A,s be ok? Anyone know the weight of this boat??
|
Re: Thoughts on 42 Tiger????
A 3a should be fine... but where would you put the transmission??
or a konrad w/ a box. |

Thanks SK 85 w/trannies. You'll need 800hp. I think dry they are like 11k (don't quote me on that). Parnell or Harvey can tell you the exact weight. Stormrider, I don't understand you question. There's plenty of room for Trannies in the engine compartment of a Tiger. |

Re: Thoughts on 42 Tiger????
I think GL's Tiger is lighter than our Gun, but that's also because he doesn't have a full cabin like we do, I think he has an extended Cover Girl. So the weight of a Tiger all depends on what Tiger you're looking at.

Would the 42 nonstep run well on ext. boxes??
Ahhh, yes, I agree....Konrads would def. be the way to go...Less work! |

Mines a 2000 Straight bottom.
I have a covergirl cabin. Dry is #9800 I'm close to 680-700HP It holds all of 280 gallons of gas. I have XR's and take it easy on take offs. Boat currently runs 83mph when light on gas. The drives providing you tighten the top cap diligently and service the oil every 20-25 hours have lasted me 300 hours, I go out in the sh!t now and then. I would not push more than 700HP with XR's and I think it is an excellent package. It will never be the fastest rig on a flat day even if you have a Tiger that goes 100 but in the rough around 60-70 mph not many people will be able to follow without so serious punishment... to them and their boat. Apart from a Tiger straight bottom with #6's I cannot think of a better boat for the use I get out of it. Over all that it has exquisite lines, nothing abrupt anywhere and everything flowing. I love the boat, it corners like a Porsche never a hint of slip, rides the rough stuff like a champ rarely do you get jolted overall handling is predictable and superb. Granted they make some faster and with slicker bottom technology unfortunately they come with slicker rides also. Those rides are all I dreamed of in an Offshore boat and I will have one like that for a very long time. |
Re: Thoughts on 42 Tiger????
GLH the first pick says it all, when it's rough real men stay straight!

Re: Thoughts on 42 Tiger????
That last pic was a good run!! It was the '04 SCOPE poker run. We were running right around 95. That's my big bald head in the back with the yellow life jacket on and I think you can see Gerard (Semper Fi) in the pas seat in the extra small life vest!! :D
I was literally def in my left ear for three days from the blower motors screaming! |

I always liked the 42's with number 6's. Is it true about the boat will porpoises a lot?
