It's so weird coming from buiding Ford monster truck and drag race big blocks. Anyone could bolt together a 557 inch Ford and make 700 HP on pump gas with no huffers for 10k. I agree there are differences in the marine industry but there ARE MANY myths perpetuated by companies

There are alot of members on OSO that have J.C. engines(me included) and you never hear a bad thing. + you get a free reach around with each rebuild

LAB ENGINE LINDENHURST NY PERIOD.
Lee has been building hi perf. engines for several decades, and has a very knowlegable staff. He has several record setting car , boat and avaition motors under his belt.
There are alot of good builders out there. I met Mike from Roccard engine( I bought a drive from him on e-bay)
And after talking with him I was impressed.
I have also heard nothing but praises about Ritchie Zul also.
I have learned that no matter what, any severe project has to be well thought out, and whoever is involved really has to care and really want things to work out as planned.
Starting out with a very well established shop, is a great starting point, get to know them, don't barrage them with phone calls. Instead stop by in person, and they will appreaciate that you took the time to see what's being done and that you care and want to know what's going on instead of just being told.
Most really good shops will take the time to explain things, and not brush you off, or bs you out of your money.
Unlike most pro athletes or media made icons, every one of us can meet a real legend in motor technology, that is approchable, and wants to help us all to understand things better. In my opinion it is way better to get to know these guys, than to know any celebrity. Not too many celebrity's have been building motors for 5 decades... BBB
