You pick the engine !
Just want to get some insight on some of the engine builders I'm looking for something for the Nor Tech 36 cat 700-800 hp.
I'm finding a lot of options. resale is key since it seems i never keep a boat to long. what would you choose? keep in mind a limit of 50k for both engines  I know they are many more, just a few that came to me. lets exclude merc. on this one. Thanks Jeff |

Re: You pick the engine !
Zul or Jc or Tommy, all good picks. Parn's Merc 800's would be great they only have a couple of hours on them.

Re: You pick the engine !
for resale I would look at just 6 , mercury, Illmor, Richie Zul, Cheif, Eickert, only problem is for 25k all except the 525 mercury will have to be used.new and in the 625-650hp will put you between 30-35k with headers, 700-750hp will be in the 35-40k range. the supercat motors running 7400 rpm's would not be wise, stay naturally aspirated., Nortech makes a very good 625 that you could get in that price range , call Ron he is very good and will treat you right and educate you a little on his motors. Re: You pick the engine !
I am a Nor-tech dealer. I have a pair of Merc 1000SC's that I can sell you for $40k. Then you have a faster Merc-powered boat below your budget. If you want to go with smaller horsepower and are concerned with your bottom line at the end of the day, go Merc or Nor-tech. You may spend a little more now, but you will sell your boat faster and for more money.

For that $$, JC or Mesa Balancing.

Re: You pick the engine !
have you looked at innovation in sarasota fla, they built some stout pieces as well as full race engines and have a pretty good warranty.

Re: You pick the engine !
Two names come to mind.
1. Tyler Crockett Racing near Port Huron MI. 2. Innovation Marine in sarasota. Both have a long history of building some great offshore racing power. |

After talking with him, it took me 16 hours to decide to let him do the work, have the engines pulled from the boat, got someone to rent a trailer, and got the motors to Eickert shop 200 miles away. I guess I didn't want to give him a chance to change his mind. He is going to see what he can do to bump up the power. Also change what ever he has to raise my RPM redline to over 6500. I'm excited to see what he can do with these. I'm going to need every bit of HP he can get out of these.

Re: You pick the engine !
Definitely Eickert
|
Re: You pick the engine !
I prefer to build my own, just wish I had a full machine shop so I could do more of the machine work.
|
Re: You pick the engine !
Eickert will build 700+hp for 25K w/ exhuast?
|
Re: You pick the engine !
If you are going w/ custom... go w/ someone local.
|
Re: You pick the engine !
not sure on pricing but i know of a few boats in my area that have great success with Sterling, 1200's and 1550's. i saw the post from Double R too, they have a lot of stuff to look at. isn't Innovation now Nor-tech engine builders?????
