Also, if the town of Meredith wants to try an implement a law like that, I,m sure we could challege in court.

The commissioner of safety can also set a speed limit as an administrative rule. Takes a petition of 200 people or something to bring it to him.

The Meredith police have a patrol boat they keep at the public docks in the NWZ.

Good question about the MP, will they enforce a local ordinance?

have you sent this to Custie? No news from the NHRBA yet

Ya CMG I am wondering if this is even a lagit deal or just something that the pro speed limit people are drumming up to try and side track our efforts. For now we need to stay focused on the HB162. We have not won that yet and it is I believe going to be very close in the voting. As for this other law I wonder if the towns only own the water x number of feet out into the lake. It may be that this will have zero effect on us but I think for now we need to stay focused on the HB162.

Re: HELP !! No speed limit on NH lakes

I hope they don't try some other way to pass a speed limit. At least not right away. Both sides are pretty worked up right now, some time to let things cool down is what is called for.

Besides if the Senate votes down HB162 then the legislative process will have run its course. We should let it rest for a while.

Skip over at winni.com posted the law that allows the head of the safety dept to set a speed limit. It only takes 25 signatures on a petition to force a public hearing then the commissioner makes his own decision. This is the way all the speed limits on the smaller lakes have been set. He can also set a horsepower limit.

This town ordinance thing is new to me.

HB162: I hope that they do not back door this. It would be a piss poor way to do it.

My understanding , the state owns to the high water mark ..The towns only own the islands inside there boundaries .. But we'll worry ab out this one later ..OPPOSE HB 162
