Re: New 38 Lightning
Much nicer door. Fountain should have done that years ago

Re: New 38 Lightning
Much nicer door. Fountain should have done that years ago. Looks like a very simple dash with the Merc smart gauges (less gauges)
|
Re: New 38 Lightning
I like the door but to be honest, I think the dash in a 105 mph go-fast should be jaw dropping sexy - to me, that dash seems big and clunky and looks like it came off a city bus - and Im a fountain guy saying this. Maybe it grows on you. I wish there was a pic that showed how much space was between the front bolster and the rear bench - looks pretty tight.

Re: New 38 Lightning
i still dont get that shift/throttle placement... i'm sure it's nice for left-haders, but would never work for me...
not to mention on the older boats, you used to bang into the controls when getting in the bolster... |
Re: New 38 Lightning
The bolsters and door look nice. Why only a 100 MPH speedo if it goes 105??

Sure does, but I guess that's the price you pay to get the full stagger and such high speeds. I'll bet it rides and flies great though. THANKS A Bunch for the pictures itilldo!!!!!! |
Re: New 38 Lightning
nice boat. I'm not crazy about the dash
|
Re: New 38 Lightning
It looks like they Super Sized the dash..........But still hide all the gauges behind the steering wheel ???? There is a 10" x 10" area that is being used for the stereo remote ????
|
Re: New 38 Lightning
I think that boat is great, the cabin door is so over due, I really dislike my three piece door. The seats look great, I think it has Fountain logo speaker covers, the dash is OK, it is a little crowded but what full stagg isn't. Now put a race fairing on it. :drink:
I like give it two thumbs up WILL :D |

Re: New 38 Lightning
Some nice improvements, but unfortunately, the same CHEESEBALL steering wheel. Why?????
|
Re: New 38 Lightning
That dash looks like they threw the gauges and controls at it, and that's where they all landed. Seriously, it can't have more than 3-4 minutes of thought behind it.
Sorry Fountain, swing and a miss on that one. This is probably just personal preference, but the dark gauge faces on a dash painted in dark colors don't look too easy to read. Of course, that could also be because they put them behind the steering wheel. Last question - what the hell is the attraction to fake carbon fiber stuff? (I'm assuming that's what gauges those are.) I understand carbon fiber in a real application, like say, an F-1 car. I don't understand things like dashes and guages printed to look like carbon fiber...it's just not that attractive to look at. Mark my words - At some point in the future, people will look back at all this carbon fiber crap with the same fondness as the prism dash in a '79 Trans Am. |
Re: New 38 Lightning
Yea, I dont 'get it. I used to love the 42's but they now put that same Fugly supersize dash in those too. I just don't understand how a designer could actually think a MASSIVE looking dash is attractive.

Re: New 38 Lightning
ok so overall it's not impressive for that kind of money $$

Re: New 38 Lightning
At 1st glance I thought it was a PowerQuest. I like the new hatch covering, door and seats, but gotta agree witih the others, still putting the gauges behind the steering wheel was a bad move. Hell, the stero remote has more dash space than the gauges.

Go back to the 1st posting of this picture and click on it. This one won't enlargen. |
Re: New 38 Lightning
I don't like new dash. Cabin door is nice.
|
Re: New 38 Lightning
yeah, that dash is not right. They need to come up with something brand new not revised..
|
Re: New 38 Lightning
Boat looks awesome!!! .... Reggie must read OSO because all the main gripes have been polished! Chit guys!!! boat does 106!!!! that is the biggest improvement! Imagine if it were slower! you guys would have Reggie's stones on a plate
IMO.. get rid of the dash paint and leave it simple.... |

The driver and passenger dash areas right down to the floor look cheap IMO...
Seats are fancier but are still to freakin low. Have they always had a kill/tether cord on the passenger side? |

Re: New 38 Lightning
there is a kill switch on the drivers side also.....the more i look at the dash the more i think its to big, that and i agree with the other posts about the hidden guages...
|
Re: New 38 Lightning
The dash was painted by Bozo the Clown, who also installed the guages, gear shifters and throttles.
Oh yeah, it was on his lunch break from Cig painting. |
Re: New 38 Lightning
Dash needs a bit of reconfiguring...Good colors matching the Graphics.
If I had my say/buying one... I would ask to have the Speedo and tachs moved down and the Smart-Craft moved on top with a Garmin GPS next to it. Other than that....more cup holders the better! :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: P.S. Not to shabby on the speed numbers either. |

Oh yeah, it was on his lunch break from Cig painting. So Bozo's full time job is painting Cigarettes, and then moonlights during his lunch hour to paint Fountain dashes and installing their guages, gear shifters and throttles? I didn't realize Bozo was so into boats? Did anyone see him at the Miami Boats Show? Or ever see him in any of the publications? He must be around here on OSO? Are you out there Bozo? Please let us know if your there? |

here we go..........

Re: New 38 Lightning
There's a lot that's right with that boat to offset what's wrong with it. It's about time they made some upgrades on the interior. Maybe Reggies next attempt will be even better, at least he's making an attempt. 2 cup holders is a start, sliding door is another great option, I also like the switches on the side. The plexiglass compartments are a nice idea too. Seats look nice, the powder coated grab handles are more modern looking. Now just ditch the railing on the sun pad, drill some new holes in the dash and arrange it a little better, and put a bigger tilt helm in the thing instead of that cheap post.
|
Re: New 38 Lightning
I met Bozo, he's painting my dash panel right now... :D :D :D
|
Re: New 38 Lightning
I like the looks and definitely trying to make upgrades like all of the other Boat builders that are out there. I truly love the graphics. The speed is great as well. I just can not understand why only two drink holders. Heck, how in the world are you going to go over a 100 mph while holding a drink in-between you legs... Now just take the sliding door concept to the other models

But more than likely it has more to do with the head room in the cabin behind the dash. Bring the gauges out from behind the steering wheel, I'll buy one. But not until then. ;) |
Re: New 38 Lightning
Yeah drypipertiger, I think he was the best they could find after the guy who designed the paint job on your boat left.
I really wish cig would go back to the fantastic "modern art" paint jobs like the one on your boat. They all deserve to hung on a race rock wall. <gg> |

Re: New 38 Lightning
Fantastic paint. Oh yeah, the rest of your boat is pretty cool too. A bit old school though, as you can even read the gauges! <gg>

Sorry the dash was designed by Stevie Wonder. You have guages hiding under under the steering wheel. I'm disapointed with the cheap plastic look and the dash. :( |
Re: New 38 Lightning
you guys kill me. And I agree, very poor all the way around. :( Except top end :D
By the way when I was a toddler I attended a viewing of Bozo the clown show at WGN studios CHi town. Either Bozo or Mr Green jeans was involved with the 38 :chick: |
