Did you ever install the shorties? I have a 2000 magnitude with hp 500's and wonder if it would be worth it.

Make sure the shorties have the upper cav plate extension on them if they are used as imcos do not have lower cav plates. Also make sure they are stainless. The aluminum one I made cracked off and I also lost the shower pickup with it. BTW the stainless one from imco is $130 shipped.
I talked to a guy with a 35 fountain that could not get on plane without the upper cav plate extensions. He said the really help preventing airiation of the prop.

It gives you a location to mount the drive shower pickup. Also helps you plane off by keeping air from sucking into the prop (blowing out) and acts as extra planing surface until the bow noses over.
The extension plate makes the cav plate on the upper about the same size as the merc lower that was removed.
