An 18 foot croc swimming past my boat near Gilberts in Key Largo....saw it later wrapped halfway around a thirty foot CC with something in its mouth.

I asked the wife "you tell me, what does that look like to you...."

She said "well, it looks like a sleeved arm and a hand held crosswise in his mouth."

Yeah, that is what it looked like!!!!!

In 1997, I just got honorably discharged from the Marines. A group of 10 of us (all Jarheads) went to Parker, Az. for the Labor Day weekend. We all went in a 40' motorhome.

We were partying at "The Roadrunner", it's one of the bar/restaurants that is right on the water. You can pull up in your boat and dock. I didn't have a boat at this time, so we were at the bar all day and night :D

On Friday night of the holiday weekend, a fight broke out at the bar and one guy got punched, fell into the water and they never found his body. This bar is on the Colorado river,if you've never been there-- it moves pretty fast! Anyway, we were partying on that Sunday and the body floated up after being underwater for like 36 hours. I was pretty drunk, all I remember is that the body floated up right near where we were hanging out and we didn't even notice it. until a girl was screaming her head off. I was pretty hammered!!

When I was kid, I saw a young man that had been run over by his father's boat. After running him over, the boat broke down. We had to load him into our boat and take him back to meet the ambulance. Luckily, it only hit the flabby portion of his butt and missed all of the vital areas.

The guy had been riding on the bow of his fathers boat in a river known for crab pots and underwater obstructions. ...

Running back to Hammond, IN from downtown Chicago last spring when I saw something floating in the water. I swung around and came back, and from about 20 feet away I could see it was a leather jacket upside down with the sleeves outstetched. Took us till about 5 feet away to see that it was empty...but the way it was floating...damn it looked like somebody was in it...plus...hey...it WAS off Chicago!

Running up from Lake Mojave into the Colorado River toward Hoover Dam.
My daughter yells that there's someone on the shoreline trying to wave us down. I spin around, and see a woman and child standing on the opposite shoreline frantically waving their arms. As we got closer, they both dive into the water and start swimming towards us. We pull them into the boat -- both are hysterical. Woman starts telling us her boyfriend, who is anchored in a cove around the corner, had beaten them both, had a gun, was threatening to kill them, and was hammered-drunk. The woman's arm was badly bruised and probably broken. I marked the spot on GPS, we sped off and found the park rangers, told them the story. The suited up in full armor and artillery, went to the coordinates, and arrested the moron. I hope he's rotting in jail today.

early in the spring on Old hickory Lake in TN. while spring testing I spotted something large floating low in the water. It was a dead cow. A friend was docked in downtown Nashville overnite on his crusier. Some one pounded onhis cabin door and woke him up. It was the cops. They took him out to his swim platform and spotlighted a female dead body and asked him if he knew anything about it. Lucky for him his wife was in the cabin. Joe Murray

Aug.1988 running north at dusk in Puget Sound toward Cattle Point on San Juan Is.; I'm excited pointing out killer whale off port bow to my wife; she's got a scared look on her face, keeps tapping me on the shoulder. I continue to point at the whale; she keeps looking more frightened and tapping me on the shoulder and points off the starboard bow; I glance over where a Trident? submarine is surfacing about 75-100 yards away. Scared the s**t outa me!

When I was a kid we use to play on the rocks in our marina in Brooklyn. A few feet out in the water was a burlap type bag. My friend said it was a money bag.Of coarse the first thing you think is it's full of money. We got it out of the water and cut the rope that tied it close. When I looked inside there were 2 dead puppies. I had bad dreams forever. Since then I'm an animal nut.

Another incident, same area, it was early spring time, we were walking on the shoreline with a metal detector. We saw something a few feet in front of us. When we go closer it was a dead body. We called the police. They came to check it out. They had to wait for the coroner to come. The tide started to rise and the body was going to start floating again if it wasn't moved. 2 of the cops went to the body and grabbed it by it's hands. As they pulled the body to higher ground the skin from the hands pulled right off. One cop immediatly got sick. It was very erie. Turned out it was a homeless women that had been living inder a near by bridge. She had been in the water for weeks. Very memorable smell.

I Love NY!!

Yuck, worst was when I had to pick up body parts after a floatplane crash, floating everywhere, looked like hamburger.

Have seen dead bodies pulled out of waters in New York, Chicago and a few weeks ago, Florida. Yuck.

Cool JC! I nearly rode the back of a 5 foot bull shark off Key Largo. He came up to look at me while I was snorkeling, not two feet below me. I briefly thought, "Hey, I can drop my legs on either side of him and grab his dorsal fin for an awesome ride!!" It was an overwhelming desire, but the few logical brain cells in my head decided that would not be smart.

Wow, cant believe all the dead body stories! Thats something I think about all the time running around Lake Erie. Ive run across some things like shirts or shoes and wonder where they came from.

Back in middle school, had a 15' Whaler. As many of you know, the free board is about 1'. We're out near Shell Island and someone tells us an old, 50' Chris Craft, hardtop and all, sank near the entrance channel. As we're leaving the beach we decide to cruise the side of the channel looking for it. As we're drifting around, I look straight down next to me and see the white hardtop about 1' below the surface. Couldv'e put my hand down and touched it.

Knowing that a huge ship was just beneath me with so little between me and the sunken wreck FREAKED ME OUT!

So I became a scuba diver.

A couple of years ago I took my 16' jet boat out to the local reef to go snorkeling, on the way I saw what appeared to be dolphins and went to see them. 3 small dolphins around a hammerhead shark that was bigger than the jet boat! No snorkeling that day.

probably not erie...just scary as hell as a 10 year old...

my brother and i were tooling around in our 8' dingy near the marina where we grew up and see a dorsal fin come out of the water...it was a 6' shark and scared the crap out of us... it was in bad shape with no visible injuries, but clearly out of sorts...we managed to coral it to the shore using the boat oars. found out later it was a dogfish shark that is pretty harmless. the wierdest part of the story is where we found it...deep in the tidal waters of Long Island (see the red star in the map)

That is an example of an Ocean Sunfish. They kinda float along the surface of the ocean ( usually pretty far out ). They can grow to enormous sizes, but are among the least 'dangerous' of any living animal .

HOWEVER. . . . when you are just enjoying the day, engines off, maybe eight or ten mile offshore, listening to music, having a beer and laughing with the girls . . . . . . who go INSTANT hysterical as this enormous creature is discovered to have harmlessly drifted up on the blindward side. . . . holy crap. . . .

A huge water moccasin that tried to bite me while I was fishing off the deck of a boat in Bull Shoals lake Arkansas. I shot him with a colt detective special with snake loads that I was carrying in a waistband holster. I`m not sure if it was the shot, the muzzle blast or the combination of the two that killed him but at less than two feet it could have been both.
