Got one the other day when lines went first in!!! It's the only adrenaline rush I can compare to going fast in a boat. This isn't mine but here's a pic....

Re: Caught a sail, yeah baby!!
Congrats! Where? How long did it take you to get it in? Line test? Weight of fish?

Re: Caught a sail, yeah baby!!
7' long full blown adult fish, he was so lit up!!! Shimano 30, 20 lb. test. about 7 minutes. Everyone says I'm not going to experience it 'til I catch one on a spinning reel with like 10 lb. test but my arm still hurts... Caught it in about 120 ft. off the loran tower between Jupiter and Sutart, FL. water was 71 degrees. After that we just got a bunch of dolphin. Hey, my sister eats Mahi... I don't, I just call her and tell her I've got your dinner.

Re: Caught a sail, yeah baby!!
Good show, that means the sailfish for my wife is still waiting for her off Fort Lauderdale. <gg>
My 7 foot 1 inch sail was 84 pounds after props took a chunk out of him. I am guessing yours weighed 85 to 100 pounds. I also cuaght mine in 120 feet of water, then he ran out to 600 feet. Took me an hour and a half to reel him in on 18 pound test. You are lucky to have caught such a nice sized fish! |
