Radar Shoot in Va

The RRBA is holding a radar shoot June 3 on the Rappahannock River in Tappahannock Va. We finally got our Coast Guard permit. Our web site has all of the details www.rrbaonline.com. It is always a good time and we hope to grow the event every year.
BTW Top Gun last year was 131+

See everyone there....

We went last year. It was an expensive day but we had a blast!!!

(Lost a $200 pair of Oakleys, had a prop come apart and destroyed a lower unit.)

What is the best ramp to use for this event. Also, how far away from the run is the ramp??

There is June Parker Marina, which a couple miles if that from the event. I have never seen it personally, but its right near Tappahannock by land. Its a 'rough' ramp from what I am told, not long, and I dunno if you can float a cat or a 38-V there Wayne. I have only heard of being able to launch less than 30 footers there. We launched in Deltaville last year, and ran up the River about 20 miles or so to Tappahannock. Plenty of ramp and plenty of water; but there are channels you want to follow.

Looks like I will be going to Deltaville then. My boat requires a lot of water to get off of the trailer especially for only being 28 feet long. I will talk to Martin, I know he is going too.

Re: Radar Shoot in Va

Dream

June Parker will be fine. Last year a lot of bigger boats launched without any problem. I saw a 43' Thunder, 36'Spectre, 31' Sonic, 24' Skater, and 38' Top Gun launch and recover. Chris (Haishi) runs the marina and he has the 24' Skater with low water pick ups. His number is 804-445-3150.

Re: Radar Shoot in Va

June parker is fine for mid to high tide....I have low water pickups and lost both impellers trying to load and hour before low tide there last year. The 36 spectre was throwing clumps of mud out his tailpipes when I watched him load beside me. The run from Deltaville can't be that bad and like brain said....STAY IN THE CHANNEL!

What is the response to this event so far? Who is planning on being there? Who plans on running? I know that this club puts a lot of time, effort, and money into coordinating this event, and really appreciate a large turnout. Not only will it be a good oppurtunity to see some fast boats, but it is absolutely a good time :evilb: . Let's hear from everyone!

Yes, I was at a party on St. Leonard creek and 3 of us cruised up to Veras. Whose 40 Skater was that??

That's Steve Stanley's. He is the new owner of Vera's and owns Maryland Paving and Sealing. That place is gonna be off the hook when it opens. BTW grand opening is June 24 coinciding with the CBPBA Leukemia Poker run, should be pretty wild.

BTW, your Skater looks great, guess it runs pretty sweet with the 300's huh? I was digging that boat, looks like it's "ready" :D

Re: Radar Shoot in Va

June Parker ramp is not only one of the worst ramps I have have ever used but if your not in a 20' or less boat, dangerous.
Yes, if you are going to use it ONLY!!!!! at HIGH tide.
The Black Thunder did make the mistake of trying to use it and paid for it with several large chunks of gel-coat missing.
I have a list of damage reports props, hulls and water pumps
That is the only bad thing, there is not another good ramp for miles, more of us would come back if the location was in a better spot. Becareful and goodluck.

We thought that might have been his Skater. I think I will come up for the opening. I have heard great plans for Veras. Thanks for the compliments. So far it has been a great reliable boat. I wish they were 300x's but the boat still runs good.

Ted G 06-02-2006 06:59 AM

Re: Radar Shoot in Va

Absolutely, come on up for the opening and we'll have a drink. The poker run should arrive around 3:30-4:00 and be there overnight. They have done so much work up there I don't think Vera would recognize the place :D

Re: Radar Shoot in Va

Put in at Deltaville. It's a great run up the river otherwise you're gonna just splash & raft right away. Hell myself and two other boats ran all the way from the south end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel in Virginia Beach, there and back same day last year. Of course we didn't realize how far upriver the shootout actually was. Otherwise would've launched at Deltaville.

As of now forcast says rain likely before Noon. Would they move the times back, or move the event to Sunday which is the rain date anyway. I know a few people are coming from a pretty good distance.

Did it happen, I no weather was ?

Re: Radar Shoot in Va

It happened weather sucked but everyone involved did an awesome job. This was a well organized run. The turnout was not so great due to the weather but we still had a great time. Top gun was a 25 Eliminator at 124, not far behind was Skaterjim in his 28 with 300x's.............stock power 120.3!!!! He probably had 121 in the boat that day. Great numbers considering the nasty side wind we had to deal with. My official run on radar was 112.9, wish I had X motors. Looking forward to other events put on by these guys.

Did Martin offer to sell you his spot on the James River poker run? If so, that is a great run. The Potomac River radar run, the one you and Charlie came to last year is scheduled for October right now. I should have asked you for a ride in your boat, I got a close up of it over 120 it looked awesome!! I am going to call Skater to see what my boat weighed when it left the factory. My motors are 2000, I was pretty sure it was the earlier models that had the different fuel and rpm setup. Maybe its a light boat?? Just need to figure a way to buy a pair of X motors :D

I'm sending Martin his $ back, but that does leave an opening if anyone is interested. Sorry I missed the radar shoot, I was in NC all weekend...

Thanks for the favorable comments. We strive to put on a first class event. The weather killed us though. Thanks to everyone who came out despite the weather. Here are the top speeds.

David Price 25' Eliminator 124.1
Jim Melley 28' Skater 120.3
Wayne Wilmouth 28' Skater 112.9
Mathew Brownie 26' Velocity 110.0
Chris Conway 24' Skater 107.9

We'll hope for better weather for the next one.

The 26 Velocity was impressive as hell!!! That was the second time I saw that boat run. I am sure there is a lot of setup time in that boat!!!
