Tmp- No More
This is the last post that I will make as TMP Racing. Some of you know that I left TMP several months ago. For those of you that do not know me, my name is Eddie Young and I WAS the one and only engine builder for TMP. Although hurricane Katrina played some role in me leaving, the main reason was that I did not like the direction that TMP was going. I will not get into details on a public forum. I do not want to be associated with the BS. I have not spoken to them in months, I do not know what direction that they are heading, nor do I care. I do not want to be associated with them in any way, shape or form. I have moved to Nashville, TN. and partnered with the owner of the Nashville Cats Nortech to continue to build the same quality engines that TMP was known for. I have many satisfied customers that can attest to that.
I still have the same La. cell number so that My customers can reach me. I have been there before, during and after the storm for my customers, should the need arise. I have and will continue to stand behind my motors 100 percent. The name of the business is Young Performance Marine. Anyone interested in motors or if you have any questions, can call and speak with me any time day or night. Cell 504-416-3607 or the shop @ 615-216-7449. Thank you, Eddie |

Re: Tmp- No More
I briefly met the guy that did the motors for that Nashville cat that was there in Jax for the Poker run, really seemed to know his stuff. Was that you? The thing was hella loud too :evilb: The owner said the boat ran 155 and if I remember right, he was one of the few "big dogs" that did NOT have any motor problems. Good luck in Nashville!!
|
Re: Tmp- No More
Yes UNSANE that was me. You are correct, the boat did run 155 and did not have any problems. The only problem we have had this year was at Havasu when we broke two Whipple snouts. I started making my own out of much stronger material, if anyone needs them. Haven't broken one since. As soon as I get some bigger props, I want to step the motors up to see what that #16000 tank will do. The motors are making 1200hp on 93 octane, but will make just over 1400 hp with a pulley change and 100 octane. The pulleys have never been changed in that boat, so I am anxious to see what it will do.

Re: Tmp- No More
Good luck to you, my man!!
Sounds like a name change is in order. PM OSO and get that taken care of. |

Thank you all for the well wishes. Yes I will change my screen name. Anyone know how??? Offshore drillin, I am just a regular guy who is lucky to be doing what I love to do.

Re: Tmp- No More
UNSANE, I have streched them to 110 hrs. I was a little worried about the valvetrain since that is the weak link. I rebuilt the ones in the Nashville Cats before the season with only 68 hrs. I knew they had been and will continue to be run hard because the boat is so big and heavy. We have quite a few poker runs to make this year and I did not want to rebuild during the year. We put over 9 hrs on them at Jax alone. We ran almost the entire first leg at 6200 rpm. I think that was somewhere around 30 miles.

Best of luck to you Eddie. I maintaine the 650's in Bill Vails 39' Nortech. Very nice set of engines. He will be very happy to hear that you are still doing what you love.
Keep up the good work!! :D John Smith :D |
Re: Tmp- No More
Hey John. I was hoping to see Bill at Jax. Haven't heard anything from him so I assumed everything was ok. Please call if you have any questions or problems. Eddie

Re: Tmp- No More
Thanks Eddie. I just went down to Bills boat on Tuesday. Oil change and check over. The distributor hold down came loose on the port motor and backed the timing down. Luckly he noticed a problem. I checked the back motor and it was ok. Looked like the timing was at 36*, sound right? Also he has a broken dipstick. It broke of in the tube right at the area of grinding a line as the full mark. I was able to get it out but now I have to get a replacement stick. Are they GM sticks?
At any rate, he loves the boat and the motors, he has the best speed of mid 90's and hasnt opened it up all they way yet. Thanks very much, John :D |
Re: Tmp- No More
eDDIE, i think you have done the right thing in clearing the air about this issue, we at LOTO have heard nothing but goodthings about you, glad you are doing well, we will keep you in mind on any of our new projects, glad you are now closer to LOTO, please come up and see us ozark boys sometime, we have plenty of red bull, good luck you are with good people with Catz. jim midwest performance marine, bring the 43 up for the shootout, have a slip and condo for you guys.

Re: Tmp- No More
John, the stick is a GM. I get a stick from a van since they are the longest and cut them as needed. That way all of the writing is cut off of the stick and there is no confusion as to the full mark. I must have got carried away when I marked it and went to far. Tron, my wife and myself ran the boat 97.?? at Nortech in the heat of the day in July or August. I am sure in the right conditions it will break 100. You have to be careful setting the timing because the MSD distributor picks up across such a wide range. Please call me and I will tell you how to double check it to be sure it is right.
Jim, I think our next run is Smoke On the Water. Not sure about the shootout. I would love to make it. Please keep me in mind for one of your projects. I would love to work with you on a boat. Nortech's boats make my motors look good. |

Re: Tmp- No More
Hey Eddie, just wanted to wish you the best in the future. The old Powerquest is still alive and kickin'. Thank you for all of your efforts in the past. All I can say is that Eddie has ALWAYS done what he said he would. And in this business that has meant alot to me. Any suggestions for a new shop down in south LA. I won't be back to TMP. If you don't want to say online, just call, you got my #.
Thanks, Ty |
Re: Tmp- No More
That sounds about right Eddie. He said he hasnt held in to it and trimmed it out a lot. He usually has people with him. I can see that being a 100 mph boat with no problem! :D
I will have to get a stick, I have a GM dealer around us so I'll get it there and hook him up. I will give you a call next week about the timing. Thanks for the help!! Its very much appreciated. :D John S. |
Re: Tmp- No More
Wobble, thanks.
NJgr8fl, thanks for the kind words. Ty, I am going to miss you guys. We will be down for the Tickfaw next year. I will be in and out of N.O. I will give you a call next time I'm in town. By the way, I just had a baby girl about four weeks ago. Give Mark a call at Precision, he can take care of you. I'll call him and tell him to give you the extra special treatment. Tell Ashley that I said hello. John, I'll look forward to your call. Eddie |
Re: Tmp- No More
4 weeks old huh? Did you name her Katrina! :D
Congrats bro, I wish you guys all the best. I will give Mark a call. Thanks again and look forward to seeing you soon. Ty |
Re: Tmp- No More
I thought about naming her Katrina. Three weeks after the storm we found out that Rachelle was about three weeks pregnant. There really wasn't much to do sitting in a hotel room for a week. Unfortunately, birth control pills were not on the evacuation packing list. That's ok. Its the best thing to come out of that storm. See you soon. If you need ANYTHING, don't hesitate to call. I have the same number. By the way, we named her Madison Ashlee Young.

Eddie,
It is Rick from Chicago (Jass's old boat). Glad to hear you have moved on to a better situation. Congrats with the new family member. I left you a message on your cell phone, when you get a chance will you call me. I have a question on the distributor and some of the internal components. We had a little ignition problem before the poker run and I would like to double check with you the replacement parts. Thanks and good luck, Rick |
