To bust Marc's balls about the Chief situation and Mike's boat specifically shows how little you actually know about the transaction. Marc worked his ass off to get Mike his boat after a year of BS from the builders. Mike has the patience of a saint.......
Thank God for OSO providing a place for the Offshore Powerboating Community to express their experiences. |
That was nothing more than Mike funding a bunch of yahoos building and testing a boat..... it was pretty sad when all said and done. Thanks god the boat turned out well despite it's makers.

The equiptment (motors, drives Hardware, trailer ect..) have good value and the hull has some as well
It will not comand the top dollor that a new boat can or that a used main stream boat would but if someone is looking for an old school style (With steps in it) that handles like its ansestors than it may be right for that person It is a tough sale that is for sure but there is a rear for every seat we just need to find that guy or girl What was the top speed? |
Speed is just under 100 mph
I think with a little testing and different props it would see more than 100 another cool part of this boat is the reverse chine It carves turns like you wouldnt believe |

I would have expected much higher top speed though considering that is a twin steps strong suit. I know the powertrain is top shelf...Chief Engines and dry sump 6A's. As it stands the powerboat is a "one off" and I know that does not help you with your sale, but I wish you the best of luck. I am glad the problems were corrected to Mike's satisfaction. Unprofessional behavior from a manufacturer will always be poorly received by the consumer. Ed |

I think differnt props and a spacer in the drives will help alot The steps are small at best and there is not enough testing done to tell how to best vent them and prop to maximum i still think there is alot of speed to be sqeesed out but would take some time on the water to figure out |
What does a conventional "Pleasure" 41 Apache run with 900's? Low/mid 80's? I think it took almost 1200 hp to get a pleasure Apache to run 100 mph, the only ones that ran 100 mph were the full race setups, no cabin etc....with 1000 hp.
Same syle boat such as the 42OL (step bottom), Non Epoxy ran 105-109 with 1000 hp Sterlings....and much more test time and set up. |
Are Commanche's being re-badged Apache's?

I never understand or can comprehend the stories of people never getting their custom boats , etc. I put all my money up front and them sell them for less than I put in them. I can't imagine somebody actually giving me money to build them a boat.

Not set up right then or they were not 1000's. Whos boat was it?? My buddy had one with 1200's and did over 120 and been in a tiple 675 boat which does 100-103.
The owner told me it would run as fast as you're saying but when we put the pegs to the wood with him throttling and me driving I only saw 105 on the GPS @ 6300 rpms. But it did run a steady 95 mph at 4500 rpms.... We ran the ocean from the tip of Sandy Hook, all the way to Asbury park @ 95 mph, its was pretty fun!:cool-smiley-011: Not bashing the boat, just saying what I saw on the GPS... Other than that it was a fantastic ride. |
Yea the non-epoxy OL's have a very solid ride at speed. It sounds like somethings off if you were running 95 at 4500 and then only 105 at 6300!! Oh well. Too bad its just been sitting in the shop for 5 plus years. Just a guess is it the Pass Blocker boat or schools in session?? I think both are in Jersey and havnt seen them in a while.

I'm dating myself now but I think it was a 2001 or 2002 model... I can't remember exactly... Unfortunately I don't have any pictures. He hardley used it the first season then never used it after that and moved onto a cat... It's a shame to see it sit there but I guess it must be nice to be able to have multiple boats sitting around collecting dust and not worrying about resale value etc... lol It is really an awesome boat! |
Hmmm, im trying to think of which one it is. Who owns it?? Yea, dang rich people!!:D:D It would be nice to have a 42 OL just sitting around!!:D:D

"Schools in Session" was a very fast boat! I delivered that boat at DSM years ago to the owner, who lived on the water in Coronado, Ca.
I have been on that boat around 127mph in the San Diego bay years ago. |

ttt... minus all of the drama surrounding the build of this boat, does anyone have any experience in it? I would be curious to hear any information on how it rides, etc. I'm not trying to stir the pot and have read all the old threads, I just really like the boat. Thanks in advance.
