You Want "real Offshore" You Got It!!!

Over the years on OSO myself and the rest of you have heard a lot of cryin about "the old days", "Real offshore", "Ocean Racing" ...CIG vs Fountain vs OL
Who is the king of offshore. Many of you don't care who is the fastest on flat water "it's the ocean that tell's the true story". WELL HERE IT IS. CALL YOUR MANUFACTURER AND TELL THEM TO BRING THEIR BADEST RACE BOAT OR RACE/POKER RUN BOAT TO CLAIM THE TITLE NO MORE WHINING OR or BS PRESS RELEASES PUT THE DRAMA TO REST: FOUNTAIN IF YOU TRULY THINK YOU CAN BEAT "SPEED RACER" CALL HIM AND CHALLENGE HIM. There will be no denying the winner his claim to the title here. They'll be some other BIG CATS that will enjoy running the "CAT KILLER" ;) CIG we all know you have a secret weapon waiting to surprise us all!!! The "old man" upstairs created our sport on these Ocean Races. OL...THERE IS more of your "Heavy duty hardware" that can handle this job than any other Manuf. You guys have a very impressive program and many Loyal fans. Don't let them down!!!! Leave the boat ornaments on the dock cause there aint no turning around when it gets rough.(not directed towards real "offshore" chicks) THIS IS A SANCTIONED RACE NOT A POKER RUN NO ENTRY FEES FOR OSS/OPA/SBI 2006 Registered members. Pacific Offshore Powerboat Racing Assoc. (POPRA) with Event sponsor AMF Offshore Racing.Com are proud to bring back a piece of offshore history with the return of the Catalina Island Rum Run. This is a 75 + mile offshore race from the Queen Mary in Long Beach Harbor to Catalina Island and back. Originally held in 1911 this event is steeped in history and promises to challenge all who enter. The pits are scheduled to open Friday July 7th located directly in front of the Queen Mary. Hotel rooms have been blocked for racers let them know you are part of the event. Air travel to and from the event is very easy book your flights to Long Beach airport and take a shuttle of call us and we'll make sure to arrange pick-up. We are expecting a good turn-out for our first event as an independent club and appreciate all of those teams that are going to travel to be with us. OSS Teams we will hit the road Monday AM for the 2500 mile run back to Toronto. We should make it by Thursday without much problem. Teams joining us so far: AMF Platinum Princess TX AMF Offshore Princess P4 AMF P4-60+ Still Got It! AMF LaveyCraft Vee Lite #17 AMF LaveyCraft P5-13 AMF Offshore Racing #13 Reliable Carriers WHM CRC Motley Crew Travis Racing #79 Renegade #99 JRP Motorsports #39 Harrys Hofbrau V8 On The Edge P4-11 Velocity P4-22 Signs For Less P4-48 Loan Ranger P6-31 Quick Silver Racing P5-7 I know there are others, let me know and I'll add you to the list. Again thanks to those that will be racing with us in Long Beach, it will be the only time this year that you go 26 miles straight offshore before you find your first turn! We hope to have more info on our website (when completed), we appreciate your patience until then (pics from H2o Full Throttle) |

Re: You Want "real Offshore" You Got It!!!
Sounds like an excellent event. Wish I could be there. I've heard rumblings of bringing back the Miami to New York race with two or three stops along the way the past couple of years and thought it was gonna happen this year, but have now heard nothing. I would like to see it come back so the east coast could have a like kind "toughboat" event.

This is what it is all about......open ocean water.
Is the East Coast going to stand for this? Letting the left coast brethern take the lead in taking us back to the roots of the sport with all the great old race sites on the east coast? I applaud the move....now the manufacturers have to show how good their boats are in real "offshore" conditions. I think there may be some people smiling down on this effort. |
Re: You Want "real Offshore" You Got It!!!

There is a lot of history with this race, it was always fun to compete in such a beautiful locale. The So Cal people always knew how to party too!! |
Re: You Want "real Offshore" You Got It!!!
WOW.... BANANA that stuff is COOL.............ANY MORE?
|
Re: You Want "real Offshore" You Got It!!!
I'd pay to watch that too. That's what I love, the old school real ocean racing. I don't know why the hell they can't get something like this going on the east coast. A Ft Liquordale to Bimini and back would be interesting, especially if the gulfstream gets it's back up.

Re: You Want "real Offshore" You Got It!!!
Now that I think of it, they should have the PCL (Pacific Coast League) run the Catalina race, and the ACL (Atlantic Coast League) run the Bimini run, then the two winners face off somwhere in the Great Lakes. I'm sure they have an island out there somewhere they could race to an back. It would be the Superbowl of Superboats.

Every race organization gave you a patch when you entered. I kept a lot, and lost a lot over the years, but ended up with some nice memories. Here are some more from the west coast. |
