Hey Eric, don't sweat the hatters. Opinions are like azzholes...You know the rest...
You did what was right for you! I remember when we were talking about you ordering the Dragon after looking at other options and you said you wanted something totally unique, different and bad azz....Mission accomplished bro! You worked through the issues and I do believe that Craig helped you through the proccess. Sh!t happens, it just sucks when it happens to such cool people. And look at it this way, you still got a totally unique boat for under the price of high dollar Fountains, Cigs, Outterlimits, etc. etc. Now try to stay out of the water when launching hmmm? :evilb: :D Oh, and the boat doesn't look too bad on video either! http://media.putfile.com/Dragon-32 |
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
All Eric needs now is a 10' pole mounted on the back and park the boat at the sand bar. Eric good luck on saturday, I just dropped off the boat that was going to do the race.

Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?

Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?

Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
Why is everyone bashing here? All EricT did was buy the boat of his dreams. Okay, so it unfortunately had some problems. It seems like Dragon stepped up to the plate and made their customer a happy one. NOBODY here on OSO can say that they bought a new boat, car, RV, etc.... and never had issues.
At least he had the patience (and money :D ) to make it right and even better than new. Congrats Eric on your boat. :drink: I look forward to seeing it this weekend when I'm up there for the ski race. Go kick some butt in that bad a$$ V-bottom. Gerard |

He is the greatest! I can't forget Joe who spent many nights and weekends with Bob working on my boat too. Bob and everyone at TCM made my boat perfect. Not to mention run like a bat out of hell. |
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
Was the boat clean when you took delivery? What about the trailer....what condition was that in? :D :D :D :D
See you out on Saturday Eric. We'll be Seekering it. :evilb: :evilb: |
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
If the boat only went 70, then something is wrong. Had somebody stated the x dimension was incorrect by 7 inches, then this would make sense. I think the posters here just wanna know why. If new Dragon's only go 70 with 525's -good for them- I say they are a piece of chit. I don't care what anybody does with their money. If people want to spend 700k for a boat that goes 66.7- I'm happy for them.
On the surface, this was bad advertising for Dragon Powerboats. And marketing does matter- ask Reggie Fountain. I know something is not right with the 70mph number(as do other readers of this forum), but the general public may not. Most people who can afford these boats are non technical, they don't know or care why a boat goes as fast as is does. They do know they have the money to buy what they want though. And I'm not buying any of these boats so my opinion is worth less than $0.02. |
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
Hi Eric,
I know first hand how awesome your boat is. Have an awesome weekend wish we could be out there. See you in Havasu again soon. T |
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
If the boat is advertised as a 90mph boat, and it barely broke 70, there is something more than a few minor gremlins wrong with it... I don't think people are bashing you Eric, they would just like to know why it only went 70 instead of 90 ???

Everyone is so nice on this board. I can't believe it. Instead of thalking CHIT, how about wow too bad you spent all that money, I hope you like the boat now.? im just cant see why in its original form ran 72? |
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
V-tec are you driving a boston whaler? sounds like you don't know much about these boats. I had my hands on Eric's boat more than he did at the beginning and it is one beautiful boat. Yes it had some problems at the beginning. Well that is all over now and Eric gets to enjoy his pride and joy. To many people on this site that have no idea whats up and have never owned a performance boat. V-tec your moms calling you to go and get your plastic tug boat out of the bath
|
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
Eric, the boat is awsome and kuddos to Lidia for letting you "stick with it"!! :D Had to be some rough times and you gotta love having a wife with a passion for high performance like yourself. I hope my wife does for that future "re-rig". Now you just better not sell it! :p

Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
Yes, I don't know anything about boats. But, soon I will have CAD drawings of the Dragon hull and I will make them available for FREE to anybody who asks. I can supply in Unigraphics and IGES. Then everybody can analyze this hull to make improvements, etc. Maybe somebody will modify the Boston Whaler bottom on the Dragon to help it achieve 70+ mph.
I can provide a cutter path too, for a marginal price. My new company will be called PirateDragons. I know, ya gonna call your lawyers.........step in line if ya wanna sue me...... I'm used to it. In fact, it's a sport now. |

Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
If anyone wants to ask question and find out the exact specifics of Eric's boat (not that it's anyones business), just call Dragon and talk to 'em about it. Craig and the rest of the group there are EXTREMELY cool people and stand by their product. Craig hails from the best (in my opinion) heading Cigarette for many years. Dragon is a new company and will have set backs and growing pains but they have not let anyone down yet so cut 'em a little slack.
Eric doesn't want to air anyone elses dirty laundry. Obviously there were some issues. Whether it was Dragon, the riggers or whomever else it has all been resolved and Eric, Craig, Bob and most importantly Erics family are very happy. Erics boat isn't the only Dragon ever built. They are currently proving themselves on the race course (UIM) winning a few races already and have proven themselves on the poker run course (Original dragon ran well over 90 at the Havasu poker run). If you ever see Eric's Dragon in person, go look at the detail and quality of the build. Talk to Eric and watch that thing run. You'll understand why after all has been said and done he's got a smile on his face a mile wide. ;) |

Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
I own hull #1 and was part of the whole experience from the time the hull was layed up by Doug Wright. My boat was rigged by Mercury at Lake X. The first pass it ever ran was 86 mph with 3 blade Bravo props. After tweeking it ran 98.5 mph on GPS with 525's and 6 blade Herrings. In my opinion (for what it's worth) Eric's problems stemmed from the rigger. The hulls are identical, and Eric is very happy after Bob's re-rig. Craig and Scott have always been standup guys and build a great boat.
Vtech, get a life!!!!!!!! You are even more out of line in this post than the last. Maybe you should take up knitting. |
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
Lets start a pole over weather v tec even owns a boat. He most likely sweeps floors at a bayliner dealership

Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
Check out www.extremeboat.com and www.powerboatp1.com/results.ihtml
See how well the Dragon hull #6 ARPRO is doing in Europe. It is in first place. They are not slow hulls. |
Isn't this what makes our sport/pasttime so much fun and passionate? This guy said....I want to go fast and I don't care what it costs....I admire that. Did it happen in a not so common way? yea....but hell, we have all probably been there in one way or another. I took my last boat....a 01' 25 Baja and put a damn 540 in it and threw over 60k into a boat that is only worth maybe 30k. Should I have done that instead of just go get a badazz 35' boat for 60k? Probably not, but it sure was fun wasting all that money.....I learned a lot and had a years worth of fun doing it. My money waste was on a different scale then Eric's, but my point is we all do it at one time or another.....Pleasure boating is about PLEASURE! Enjoy it once in a while!!!

haha....not sure how I happenned upon this article....just realized how friggin' old it is.....sorry for the 1st reply, and now the 2nd
