dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
delivered it ran 72 mph?..... i thought it ran 90+ with 525s... i kinow it ran 90+ with 525s....
whats the deal with that boat? |
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
If it is the one with the blue paint job then the boat runs in the 120's now. It has been changed to #6's with 1000 bob teaque engines. Boat is real nice. One of a kind.
|
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
that is it... but the article claims rerigg gains of 40mph and that when delivered it only ran 72!?!?!?!
|
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
I thought that was wierd as well. Even Hot Boat tested one in the mid 80's I think.
|
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
Big Big difference in the drivetrain package that is in the boat now. Boat has had almost a full re rig
|
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
typo?
it happens. :D |
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
That does sound like alot of gain in speed. Granted he now has quadruple the HP. What kills me is that he spent all that money for the boat and assuming he sea trialed it before he took delivery he knew what he was getting into .Then to be pissed off because it wasnt fast enough then to spend an extra $200k on it to have it rerigged just blows my mind. Why didnt he just have it built that way to begin with and not have the headaches that he had. Do it right the first time it wont cost you as much in the long run. (Of course the article never did say if he purchased the boat new or used). He probably could get another 15mph if he lost those VI drives and installed Teague drives (alot less weight and can still handle the HP)
|
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
forget the rerigg... twin 525s...twin step all epoxy...72mph? something aint right....how come no one is up in arms about this but the apache/chief thing went 10pages in ten minutes cause it wwas delivered dirty?... this thing could not go that slow... did he forget to trim up
i dont buy it only ran 72... a straight gun with 500s runs that |
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
I am hoping someone from Dragon jumps in. Either the 72 mph was a typo, someone other than Dragon rigged it, or the boat is a turd! What is the story here?
|
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
Craig Barrie(?) when in Miami even stated 90 with 525's. I'm hip with the typo theory See it all the time in PB, and any other mag for that matter.
|
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
This boat belongs to a very close riend of mine, The owner Eric T was not happy with the top speed of the boat and decided to upgrade to large power. He is very happy with the boat now. Craig built a beautiful boat and Eric took it one step farther. 525's don't cut it in los Angeles
|
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
So now Teague drives can easily handle 1000hp and are 15mph faster than SSM6? It's well documented that I'm no fan of #6s but please...
|
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
It takes less HP to turn them they weigh less and yes the new Teague drives are rated to handle up to 1000hp. Maybe not 15mph but more mph and probably would have cost less.
|

Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
Well, Bob Teague did the re-rig, so I think Bob and Eric probably looked at all the options.
|
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
I remember reading that someone else originally rigged the boat. (not Dragon) I think they weren't happy with the rigging and that what started the problem. They seem to have kept the issue quiet.
|
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
itwasnt a typo... they clearly state that the boat "barely ran 72 with over a thousand horsepower under the hatch"... 200k to fix it to run 110 and gain 40 mph?... stock should run 90+
|

Finally someone talking sence on this thread. Bob and I discussed all of the options and the package I have is what I wanted. |
Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
A Donzi 38 ZR pushes 90+ w/ 525's, I don't see the attraction here. This guy had to spend an ADDITIONAL $200K to get happy. I would be burned, or is everyone in California got that much $ ?
I remember a PB article that had a Top Gun and a Donzi 38 ZR pushing 100 plus with naturally aspirated engines. Wannabe |

Man, there sure are alot of experts on OSO these days!!!! :D :evilb: :drink: :evilb:

I had two options, sell the boat, or do a complete rerig and fix the numerous problems it had. I love the boat, I had no intention of selling it. So for fun I decided to repower the boat. |

Re: dragon in PB atricle? WTF?
Eric, the boat is gourgous and you are happy and got what you want... that is all that matter... congrats.
BTW, Eric got off cheap compared to that 2 million dollar apache rerig. :D |

If you have been around boat long enough, every manufacturer has a boat or two that has gremlins. That is just boating. As for the VI Drives, they are bullet proof. I was not willing to use a Teague Platinum drive and have to baby the boat.....
So, again, thank you for your kind words. Eric |

If that were me being "frustrated" that much would mean pissed off. If you got more money than brains then you got what you deserved by not sea trialing your boat and finding out it didnt perform to your expectations before you ever paid for it. It is a nice looking boat and im glad it performs the way you want it to now but for what you spent (both boat and rerigg) you could have had a boat that ran 120 out of the box. (just my 2 cents enjoy)
You are right, I could have bought a boat out of the box that did 120. There are day's that very idea crossed my mind. I really don't think it was necessary to take a shot at me with the more money than brains comment. You came on here attacking me and my boat. WTF did I do to you? |
