Help...suggestions With My Paint Job

Both sides will be the same, so disregaurd the third pic in both renderings. The pic with the tribals is what I'm going with. I'm torn between going purple or blues in place of it. I want to add more purple/blue under the green tribals and fade to the purple like in rendering 2. suggestions. Thanks.

There are a few pics from my favorite OL and Cig to show some of the colors I like, but everyone lately goes with blues so I thought purples might be a good change.

Tribal...here today, gone tomorrow...too trendy. A toned down version of #1 would be my choice.

Ive been looking at it this way for the last few days, just not me. The boat has nice lines that need to be addressed. I even thought about painting it like the Maroon/silver Cig at the Miami show, which is still in contention, the easy but safe way out :D

Jeff, I like #2 without the 43 on the hull side. Tribal is very West Coast...nothing wrong with it but just not what you expect to see on a Nor-Tech running in the bayou. But then again maybe that's why you want to go that route?! Whether you go blues or purples I would keep the shades dark.

I really like that Cig, it has a few shades of BLUE tribal by the fairing. I wish I had better shots of that boat. I kinda like that West coast, Southern Bayou Cajun feel, if ya know what I mean. :drink:

Re: Help...suggestions With My Paint Job

My personal opinion is that the whole tribal thing is like the pukey pale pastel colours of the late 80's, early 90's. It will date the boat within a few years and probably actually detract from resale pricing within 5 years. It seems the "over the top" graphics of today are the "fugly" graphics of tomorrow. I would love to see a big V done mono chromatic in a pearl blue or possible a front to rear fade using the same colour.

Re: Help...suggestions With My Paint Job

Clean is mean.. All those colors and designs just mask the lines of the boat.

Jeff,
I would personally keep it simple. Most people (including me) these days are getting tired of the "busy" or "elaborate" paint jobs. The paint you are considering looks nice, but will it appeal to someone else when you go to sell it? I would think about re-sale value someday.

Sometimes when I see a boat with a rediculous paintjob I wonder what the hell the owner was thinking when they had it painted??? (I'm not saying the paint you are considering is rediculous.)

Here is a classic example of a Cig with a simple, but classy paint job that looks awesome and will never go out of style.

Sorry. By #2 I meant the rendering, not the pic of the Cig.

Mentalpause and I were talking about this last time we were sipping sodas at the dock at LOTO. There are several older Fountains (early 90's?) around the lake down there that have the simple, colored, narrow bands running the length of the hull that accent the boat's lines. Even though the boats are approaching 15 years in age, they look just as good today as they did when new. This may not work on newer boats with more freeboard and taller hull sides but the concept is the same. Keep it simple and classy and it will not date itself.

#3 , but with replacing the green towards the rear with an orange. Add a few small streaks of green to the sides for accent.

I like green, especially when layered and it's the right shade of green. I will also be doing somethig with the scoops and sunpad. I do agree with the tribals being toned down somewhat. Maybe in between
something like the blue Cig on the cover of the August Power Boat Mag, and what is in pic 1.

Keep the responses coming, I apprieciate it. thanks Jeff

Jeff, the Cig in pic 2 is named Helios. Do a search, I'm sure there are more great shots of her.

Of course, I like the Maroon Cig style the best..... :D

Re: Help...suggestions With My Paint Job

Jeff,
If you are concerned about resale, I woudn,t go too crazy with the green. While it is a nice accent color, too much of it would be bad for resale (in my opinion)
As far as these monotone boats, while they are beautiful, I think that they are a little boring and something that you could get tired of fast.

Being a NorTech fan I think they all look great..... But since that is not going to help you make a decision, I like the 2nd rendering #1.... add some more Orange to make it jump out more....

Looks great though, curious on the performance when it is done, good luck.

silver platium candy red .. with some toner colors... I would also be careful with the green.

Thanks. The other 4300 went 74, when I was on it. It wasnt quite dialed in, and we were using 5 blades. What I did that was different was lose the notch in the transom, which placed the motors slightly lower and back to change COG. Went with a lighter layup, consisting of more kevlar reducing weight approx 6-800 pounds. Went with zipper pouches and doors except head door, good for another appr. 200 pounds. Changed exhaust to 6" vs 5" with a switchable flap built into the vent tubes to be closed off once up on plane which will drastically help acceleration. Changed to 6 blade props, the goal is 80mph. and I believe we will be close. Possibly in the future there will be some engine management tuning for the electronic injection, but it's all about reliability, higher cruising speeds, and better fuel economy, and hopefully cheaper ins. rates. I will keep everyone posted, going down Thursday to pick out cockpit and cabin colors. Thanks Jeff

keep it simple, my next one will be mostly white. is Pat doing the paint? I think the tribal thing is over and would be thinking about resale. don't you go through boats fast 2 yrs or so?

Re: Help...suggestions With My Paint Job

less is more. there is nothing that highlights the lines of a boat like a simple uniform paint job in say, navy blue with lighter highlights along the hull and around the fairing and air intakes, like silver for example...

if i had to go for something wild and colorful, call me old-fashioned but nothing beats a good flame paintjob...

Re: Help...suggestions With My Paint Job

Jeff agree with pm, dont get to hung up on too many designs, tribal not, you are very good with colors, keep your color scheme, easy on the green and keep it more simple, the 43 nortech has awesome lines, and does'nt need a radical paint job, just nice smooth lines, be interested to see what you go with on your interior as I'm changing mine right now, let me know if anything hits you when you go to nortech, all good advice on this thread, wiggler

Oh yeah - I already said blue. Remember what you have been telling yourself - you are keeping this boat!

Jeff, I am confused about one thing - when you lose the notch do you have to lower the drives just a bit? Water should rise off that notch to allow the X dimension to be a bit higher.

From what I understand, the problem is to get the COG to change more aft. This will get the nose up. Also this gets the ASD8's in a little cleaner water further back. I sent you an email on the paint.

I found something less, and something I really like today on another designer/painters website, and I will see what he can come up with. I just sent him an email. It is very tastefully done, with alot of fades on a Cig, blues and silvers. BTW I wanted to also Thank You for the advise on set up and everything else. :drink: Jeff

Here is a nice clean design that could be juiced up with a taste of color. Maybe a little orange on the sides replacing or with along side the gray.

I always liked that color scheme, and graphics were better than Terry's previous 4300. I like the Cig on the PB cover for August, as well as the Cig on another painters web site. I am waiting to get a response and take it from there. If not Ill lose the tribals, replace with more swooping lines and then faded to the purple. I might change to blue's. Clean it up, making it less, so it's easier to resale. Thanks Jeff

I like the blue and green for some reason. The colors aren't as bright like a crayola box, seems more subtle and classy.

I still like a white boat though.

Jeff, Terry's old 43 is one that I'm still playing with, a little to much green, purple in lieu of blue and out with the small amount of yellow, love the platinum fade, very classy and resellable , just my opinion

Harold, thanks for youe post, Terry said you were a class act, how about just a tough of green where light purple is, nortech on side needs a pop, like dark platinum or the lime green with platinum shadow or visa versa, otherwise I love it, sent you an email.

I AGREE THE hot lime green is a little much, will look at the hot hues green are they pearl or not?

pm203 07-13-2006 09:45 AM

Re: Help...suggestions With My Paint Job

I don,t see anything appealing about using lime green unless it is used as a minor accent color.
