If it has it's own pickup turn it around on the bottom of the boat so the water is not forced in while running. That's the way I have my AC pickup mounted.

one large RC car/boat/plane servo...and some creative jerry rigging. It is probably easy to rig a cable that will close the valve when you put the trans into gear, but opening it might still have to be done manually
