My engines were tested at 117 DB without mufflers. So 120 is not so far out of wack as you guys think. Aetco Engines built both Gino's and my engines, so we are close. I even bought my own meter to check my boat and other boats. Idle test at 90 DB is very, very quiet. I am talking fishing motor quiet. Many performance boats will not pass 90db even with mufflers. Aetco sells some nice turndowns that will get the exhaust under water and will pass 90db at idle.

117 DB at what RPM? If Florida is 90DB at 50 feet at speed, turndowns won't get you anywhere close. Especially if you have to surrender you're boat for testing as stated. Has anyone tested turndowns with water injection (ones you can turn off or on as needed). Would that do it if injected half-way down the vertical and maybe have no chance for reversion?

I had my boat in pittsburgh pa on sunday and its only a nova spyder with 500hp and headers and side exit exhaust no mufflers and i had people yelling at me to shut the engine off when i was idling i have even got my fair share of the finger this summer because of the noise

For the past 25 years, a standard 330 hp big block with standard exhausts thru-transom would get you a ticket in Lauderdale. $90 back then.
