There is a 288 Sunsation in the clasifieds that has a 1" shorty. I've sent a meassage to buddy twice asking about the change, but have yet to hear back. I am concidering one too. But need some possitive experience with one on my hull before I buy.

I was going to put a 2 inch shortie on my 272 baja but chose to install a stellings ext box instead in the 1 inch raised position. Results so far are as follows: Boat lost a solid 2.5 mph, porpoises between 2800-4000rpm's unless your digging the tabs in,won't carry bow in rough water, cavitates when you hit 3000 rpm's taking off, rides no better under any conditions, cavitates in rough water unless you constantly are adjusting and re-adjusting trim position. I am glad I did not buy a shortie also. I am going to try adding a 1"drive spacer soon and if it still sucks in general will be coming back off in the fall. The other Smitty is exactly right, these non stepped hull Bajas need to carry the bow,Smitty

I picked up 2-3 mph it seems. Only had it out 3 times so far in 90+ degree temps but it has run best ever speed. It won't stay on plane below 3000 rpm and trim has lost leverage. Luckily Black Thunders have lots of natural bow lift.

Sounds like you could possibly fine tune it now with a set of 1/2 inch or 1 inch drive spacers or 5 blade props unless you don't mind the staying on plane issue and there are no other side effects,Smitty

Ian,I know its a 43 ft bt,but do you ever get into rough water where you have to run on plane real slow,my boat was miserable at boyne thunder when I was trying to do exactly that around 2800-3200 (along with all the other negative side effects) so I am installing a 1" drive spacer,Smitty

Same here, not sure what to try or if it's worth it. Bob told me that my boat was set up for Mirage Plus props and I can probably raise the drive 1 1/2" which is where he set up all the Bravo 1 boats.

When I got the B-Max shorties were an option. Maybe next year but for now I'm just enjoying the boat.

Yes Smitty there are times like when my parents are on the boat. I'll have to ask Throttle Up if I can try a pair of 5 blades. It's strange that the shorty hurt your performance so much. Sell it and the box and you can do more to your engine.
