Question Driving from MI To Lk.Cumberland next week.. Towing question (Help)

I'm looking on-line now and cant find anything, plus I called 2 ford dealers that were no help at all. I'll be towing a 29 Scarab (6300lbs) on a Aluminum double axle Continental trailer (Dont know that weight maybe 1200lbs) Most everything on-line show 7300/7500LBS with the E250 v6. I have the larger engine and 3/4Ton set up... Question is

~ Will my 2002 Ford Ext V8 3/4 Ton E250 Do this without damaging itself? I'm going to be spending 5 days on Lake Cumberland and I would really like to move about the lake in something other than a 3mph house boat.

You have a 3/4 van with the 4.6 V-8? Seems like you should be OK to me. Just remember your hauling a few2 extra pounds and don't need to blow everyone away in the fast lane.

Its looking like you should be okay hauling that kind of weight. Here is a link to the towing capacities for Ford vehicles. https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/...2/2002_All.pdf

On that link its page 19 that you want to look at, instead of reading through all the other junk. Hope this helps.

Just keep it out of Overdrive, that will save the tranny, the rest of the truck is worthy, it is the motor that is bringing the GVWR down. Out of OD keeps the R's up and the pump on the tranny moving the oil quickly, that will keep it cool. I would also, like said, keep it at 65. I used to tow 10K with a 1/2 ton Dodge, it had a 360 and 3:92 gears but it was still way over limit. I never had a problem. Another very important thing, when you stop for fuel or anything for that matter keep the engine running, at least for a few minutes, this keeps the tranny and engine oil moving, if it stops it will sit and cook. This is a huge tranny saver, you can imagine running hard, then stopping and holding your breath....you will pass out....same for the tranny.

Opps, Forgot that part - It's a 5.4L V8 Triton with a trans cooler set up from Ford. I did find a sticker that said GVWR 8600 I thought that was the Van Weight, But now way does that van weight 8600lbs. Our in house Mechanic said thats the Max Towing weight.. Hope hes right, I would hate to lunch an engine or trans - that would just kill a weekend.

Make it page 23 in that link for a van. It basically says max trailer weight for it is 7300 pounds.

Beaver Creek Marina, We will be down there from 28th to the 1st .

What Size Van (Eng/ton) do you have and how much weight are you towing? I have never towed any place further than the local Gas station up in Michigan.. and its pretty flat here too. Just worried about the hills and long hwy miles.

Your in house "mechanic" needs to go back to school. 8600 GVWR mean Gross Vehicle Weight Registered. Not towing capacity. GVWR is what the vehicle is registered as for weight of vehicle plus weight of payload.
