And what about the actual movie itself? It's visually beautiful, but doesn't it pale in comparison to the series anyway? Sometimes you just can't top the original.

Let's see the original had bad acting, cheesy love stories, horrible fake stunts with a few cool boating scenes. Sounds like the movie is very similar to me! Let's just hope the stunts are better!

Well I can tell you from my personal experience that these movies are tailored for the masses, these masses are what? Thats right, STUPID. All movies are test screened with everyday schmoos and then they are surveyed and screened and poked and prodded. They take all the info and homogenize the movie to make it have mass appeal. They don't get US, only US get US. We live for this chit, the masses live for all the superficial crap that is in movies today, the DVD will be cool, hell most of us have home theaters or at least surround sound so whatever, I think it's amazing they are even doing the damn thing :drink:

I will shake the dust off the "Scarface" DVD and be happy.

Jamie Fox and Tom Cruise are on my list of actors NOT to see.

I'd like to know what the hell else Don Jonson and Phillip Thomas has going in life that prevented them from staring in the movie. If a sequil is going to be successful, the original cast is mucho importante!

That sucks, I can understand that they found that they could not use less footage than planned, but wasn't one of the premise's that the cops were also racers.

I remember reading in one of the boat mags about the money and time that was spent rigging the MTI, and the Donzi so that footage could be shot from them.

Masses or not, I can't believe that several really cool race or boating shots would not have been good for the movie, there are so many cops and robbers in car chase scenes you would think this would have helped the movie standard apart from the others.

Very disappointing :(

id never pay to see anything with jamie fox in it, he's a loser, and a commie azwipe. 120 min running time...so what quinton tarentino could do 120 min movie...kill bill was 3 hours so he made it pt 1 & 2. if miami vice was good enough they could have done the same thing, shows what morons the people in hollywierd are, who here has a buisiness and wouldn't mind pissing 2.7 million down the toilet? cuz you didnt think the movie thru...wtf

The Scenes That They Shot Would Have Been Alot Better If They Would Have Actually Talked To The Professionals (racers) That They Hired About What They Were Trying To Portray In The Movie. They Told Us Nothing About What We Were Expected To Show In The Scenes-- We Were Just Given Minimal Instructions On Where To Stand Etc. -- Nothing About What Was Happening Before Or After Our Scene. Without This Info You Had A Bunch Of Professionals Standing On Docks Looking Confused Holding Lines, lifting Hatches And Spraying Hoses. No Realism At All. Fox And Farrell Got Out Of A Race Boat After Running A Race Dressed In Full Length Nomex Fire Suits (indy Car Style) Completely Dry Except For A Few Drops Of Sweat On The Face (sprayed On Of Course). I Am Disappointed That They Went To The Trouble To Hire Some Of The Best In The World And Aside From J.t. Talked To None Of Them About Tips On How To Re-create A Realistic Scene At The Docks And In The Water. We All Worked Like Hell And It Would Have Been Nice To See Something For Everyones Efforts.

Wow i was so looking foward to this movie, i own all freeze frame vids and was looking foward to seeing high clarity filming and some new camara angles. Powerboat mag. had both Farrel and Fox on julys cover with it saying SEE THE BOATS OF MIAMI VICE. I guess the title should read sorry for wasting time on your magazine cover. I feel sorry for donzi , all the boats they used, they have full page ads in the mags based on this movie hoping to promote future sales. Its a shame as these boat seens would have had kids day dreaming one day they would own a go fast boat. When i was 10 years old i saw a cataraman 2x outboards pull into tobay beach and i was in owe and since that day i have dreamed of owning one, well 25 years later i was able to buy one. Where dreams will take us.

I can't believe this many people would take someone's word who is pissed off because his boat did not make the cut ! the statement..... " The only race boat scene in the whole movie is Jamie fox getting into the MTI and taking the girl to Cuba for lunch. Thats it!.".....is far from the thruth ! All of the Donzi scenes made the cut and MTI has some gorgeous footage too.

The director is Michael Mann....hard to imagine he isn't a "true Vice fan" considering he created and produced the original series.

Guys,

Being a newbie, I don't want to offend. I'm disappointed, too, that the boat racing was cut. But to borrow from Michael Corleone, "It's business. Just business."

If the studio thought it could put butts in movie seats with boat racing, they'd dedicate three hours to it. End of story. Studious are alll about making money, nothing wrong with that I guess, and they'll do anything they can to maximize their profits.

As for the "waste" involved, that's Hollywood. All will be forgotten if the movie grosses a few hundred million in domestic and overseas revenue. And even if the movie flops financially, it's not as if Mann won't work again.

As for Mann not being a "Vice" fan, two things come to mind. First, if I'm not mistaken, I think he directed and produced the original series. Second, the original show was pretty lame. Not sure that "staying true" to any of it would have been an improvement.

But it sure would have been nice to see race boats on the big screen.

Pretty much sums it up. It really would have been awesome to see more offshore footage, but the percentage of those going to see the movie just for the "boats" is nil.

The entire race scenes were cut, As for being pissed off because my old boat did not make the cut ! My boat was not a canopied boat and may have been shown for 3 seconds max. I disapointed that we don't have a "Boat race movie" too look forward to. We were expecting a movie with a race boat theme.
Many racers expically JT spent weeks standing in 100 degree heat, pouring rain waiting for filming to start. To have all of the race cut is a shame and a disapointment.
Michal Mann stood up and appoloized to all the boat racers for working so hard and having the movie changed at the last minute. He didn't do that for his health! He did it because he knew the disapointment there would be.

We don't care if there's only 60seconds of Boat footage in the whole Movie,, thats 60 seconds more than any other movie has had in years!!! Were going!!

Does the Movie have the same"intro Music" as the series did??

NO, different music. The movie is TOTALLY different than the series.

Mann himself said that if you go to see the movie, and expect it to be from when the TV show ended that you will not be happy. This is not the Dukes of Hazzard.

As far as boats go, those of us that have them want to see them in the movie. but the movie wasn't made to make us happy. It was made to make money for the studio and its backers. If the 30,000 members of OSO don't go to the movie, that is peanuts compared to the total that will probably go to it.

Too bad there is not a way for these reactions to get back to the big wigs who make the film. I was totally excited to see the movie and now after hearing everyones reaction, I have no interest. I'll rent it just to see the extra footage on the dvd. They wont be getiing my money and probably others.

Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!

Apologize.... Everyone who was involved in the filming of Vice was PAID. Especially JT. The problem is that the general public cant relate to boat racing like they can auto racing.... How many of you went to see the boat racing movie about the Miss Madison... how many of us supported our brothers in Unlimited? Not very many! And even if we did have a whole movie about offshore, it would be the wrong brand of boat... or thw wrong guy would have won...etc...etc... I was in the series for 3 eps... with most of my effort was spent on "The Great McCarthey". It was hot, and we didnt get the exposure that we wanted...etc... but it was an experience... the egg saled fight at elliot key with Craig Maudsly and Marc Mercury... We had a blast... In the end... there was a big uproar!!! boycott MV becasue a 50' cary won the race.... come on guys...get real!! its make believe!!! Because of MV, the series, our sport has tripled its public awareness.... and to Micheal Mann we owe the credit.

Mid Ocean- you nailed it !

ActiveFun -
These reactions wouldn't even be casual chatter at the dinner table of the big wigs even if it did get to them ;)

And for all those people who keep saying, "They won't be getting my money because I'll rent it or see it on DVD" uhmmmm ! if your watching it, they are getting your money ! DVD sales & rentals are all counted into the total movie gross.

Just saw the movie today, I was pleased. It does the original Justice. Sure it would have been awesome to see more boats and I would have liked to hear more of a soundtrack, but overall. I would watch it again. Had some nice shots of MOJO, Donzi's and some unfortunate shots of Crockett blowibg up to quad outboard boats.

Movie was cool. Go see it you won't be dissapointed.

I just got back from seeing it. I went at 12:30 so no jackazz could tell me and ruin it.

It's definitely not "our" vice, but it is good. The movies will never have enough powerboats, hell I get mad when no one is posting at 3:30am except me.

The film is very dark and violent. I enjoyed the story, but would have liked to see a Miami story, this jumped internationally. The MTI's and Donzi looked awesome, and were portrayed correctly, too.

I only hope enough people like and go to it. It's the best chance we have to get another one done, and likely, the best chance for a movie with real powerboat footage. :eureka:

Please support it, it's best for the industry and the future of the franchise.
