Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
Last night was the big primere of Miami Vice. Some of us that had our boats used in the movie were invited. Before the movie started Michael Mann went to the stage to say a few words. He started by saying what a wonderful city Miami is, Blah blah blah. Then he said how he had to make some of the most difficult decisions of his career. He said after a lot of work and effort by a lot of people, he regretted to say all of the boat race scenes were chopped from the movie. He said it was some of the best footage they had and it was some of the most time consuming filming of the whole move. 2.7 million dollars in the toilet. The only race boat scene in the whole movie is Jamie fox getting into the MTI and taking the girl to Cuba for lunch. Thats it!.
All of the 100 degree days waiting for filming to start was a waste of time. All the months of waiting for the movie to come out and this is what they do to it. If you want to see a movie with a lot of shoot out scenes like every other movie, this is it. If you want to see a movie with cool boat scenes, forget it!!! I'm so disapointed. He did say however, some of the footage will be at the end of the movie on the DVD only. |
Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
THAT SUX
So now we have to wait for the DVD and hope they put the footage in. What a waste of everyones time. |
Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
I don't understand why the scenes were cut. What was the reasoning behind it? :(

I think it's a load of crap. It's called Miami Vice, and for those who have watched the series over the years and know anything about Miami, boating is every bit a part of the Miami lifestyle as any other topic in the movie (crime, drugs, etc., etc.)....It is character development and it is background generation.
Oh well. :( |
Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
Wife called me to tell me that this Morning That Sux!

Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
That just sucks, I swear if I go see this movie and its some BS love story, I am going to be pissed. 2.7 mil in the trash, Gee I wonder why production companies are having it tough!!

Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
Will the "original" movie be on the DVD with the boating/racing scenes intact?
|
Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
Very dissapointing to say the least. I will still be watching it as its the only movie that will even have one screen shot of something like a MTI.
|
Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
Were the guys that ran their boats in the movie compensated for their time and expense?

Gino -
Don't know you personally, but I wish I had known you were there. I would have loved to say Hi! and shake your hand. Glad you are feeling better. Hans |
Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
Why do us high performance boaters always get the shaft? Insurance , gas , racing bs and now this - go figure!
|
Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
Oh, well thats what I say just makes the original that much better!!! Good for Don Johnson and the rest of the original crew. Those shows are timeless for us who do powerboat.

WILL Heaven's Gate (1980) trivia: At one point during filming, Michael Cimino decided that the spacing of the buildings on one of the sets didn't look right, despite it having been built to his exact specifications. He ordered both sides of the street razed and rebuilt at a cost of $1.2 million over the objections of his crew (who reasoned that it would be easier to knock down one side of the street and rebuild it twice as far away, for half the cost). |
Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
Dammit, I really don't even want to go see it now. What about the Donzi's and others running in the Previews, is any of that in the Movie???
|
Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
Dam. I was really looking forward to seeing it.

Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
There was a very dissapointing article in the Miami Herald yesterday about the film. Seems like Mann didn't want to stay true to the show. Rather he wanted to show Miami 20 years later and how it has grown, etc., etc., blah, blah, blah....I could have gone to the after party last night on the Beach but decided not to waste my time, I was so pissed ......I am passing on the movie; maybe watch it on DVD if I hear the boat scenes are back......I can watch any number of Miami drugs/corruption/gang movie whenever I want...pick any, there are numerous....this movie definitely is NOT Miami Vice......

You should have come down to Mansion...it was an pretty cool hang ... All th ebest, Hans |
Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
Article about the movie was in the Wall Street Journal last Friday. It stated the issue was the "running time" of the movie--over 120 minutes. The studio had them cut it back and they elected the boat scenes.

Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
On the flip side, the original series wasn't all that boating involved. More shots of the sailboat than the Scarab.
Would be nice to have a boating version though. Sucks for the guys looking to see your boats in the movies. |

Oh well. :( I've seen several interviews by Fox and Farrel..Both always say they stayed away from the theme of the original....Which by the way is on the STELTH channel on DirecTv. |
Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
It usually comes down to the lead actors' demanding more "face" time ( translation: 'character development' ).
As soon as I saw who was cast in the leads, I knew it would suck. |

Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
Dang thats a real bummer. Don't go to many theaters to see movies but this one was on my list, because of what I had heard about the boating in it. Guess I'll pass now. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
I don't understand why the scenes were cut. What was the reasoning behind it? Should we read the dissapointing articles and not give it a chance? If this movie doesn't hit it, maybe they will blame it on the high performance boat scenes (although minor), they will need an excuse! |
Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
Lubejobs,
I can understand why you are pissed - I'm pissed and all I did was waste my time reading all the magazine articles about how great these boat scenes were going to be! So I can imagine how pissed you are that your boat's not in the movie! I think I would rather spend the movie $$$ on DVD's of the original series. This movie sounds like it will be similar to the series in name only, unfortunately. Shame on Mann bowing to studio pressure. This movie sounds like another "Bad Boys 2" or something... |
Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
Speaking of which, when is the release date of Season 3 of the original series?
|
Re: Miami Vice Huge Let Down! Read This!
I also was one of the boats in the movie. Yes we were given a token amount of money to go there and use our boats. It cost all the teams WAY MORE than they payed. We did it for the betterment of the sport and thought that if Offshore racing was seen on the big screen that possibly it would help build the fan base again. It was even OK if Typhoon was not even in the picture as long as they got some good exciting Offshore footage for the movie. I feel like sending them a bill for my cracked windshield,Drive rebuilding and my prop that got destroyed. We worked from 4:30 am to 8:30 pm one day in 102 deg heat. And similar hours the next day. My guess is it cost the average boat there an average of $10,000 out of pocket. I'm pissed!!!!!!
While they were filming the racing I was saying to myself: they could make a movie of just boat racing like Days of Thunder. Maybe its just us boat nuts but I would love to see a movie like that. MD |

It may help if you and the others involved sent a letter to the producers... |
