Re: Miami Vice
I too thought the movie was great. Had the feel of the seriers but was done much better.
|
Re: Miami Vice
That movie was about as much fun as an FAA commercial medical exam without Vaseline. What a pain the ass! Wish I hadn't wasted the time, I could have stayed home and shampooed my cat. At least I would have seen some pooosey.
|
Re: Miami Vice
I liked it
I wish there was more boat stuff but it was true to past Miami Vice show i will get the DVD when it comes out hoping to see more boats |
Re: Miami Vice
Hollywood can stick this one on the shelf right beside the "Dukes Of Hazard".
|
Re: Miami Vice
well I'm going to day since I BLEW UP MY MOTOR  AND GOT A FLAT ON THE WAY HOME SUNDAY
|
Re: Miami Vice
I liked it, it was realistic and dark.
The MTI shots were nice and put a little smile on my face. Especially when the sound was correct along with the Donzis too. All in all what other movies do you even get 30 seconds of a MTI runnin in open water? |

Re: Miami Vice
The 22 people that voted "refuse to see it" are making sure there is never another one. Too bad, since this is the most likely franchise to actually feature our boats/lifestyle. Micheal Mann stood in front of an entire theatre in maimi and apologized for the race scenes being cut. Don't you think if he makes another he would MAKE SURE something gets in?
To all of the 22, thanks for nothing....... |
Re: Miami Vice
Saw it last night...I thought it was pretty good. Yeah I wish there were more boat scenes, but I'm also addicted to offshore boating. At least they said "go fast boats" instead of "cigarette boats". The scenes were also very realistic. And how many movies do you go see that have any footage of an offshore boat running in open water...I have to admit I almost sprung wood in the theatre watching that MTI haul ass over those big rollers. I thought the movie was a little difficult to follow in the beginning, like they cut out some neccessary scenes...but overall I enjoyed it. I also liked the Phil Collins cover during the credits...gotta find out who does that one.

Re: Miami Vice
My wife asked me...on a scale of 1-10, I gave it a 4, and that was generous  It was supposed to be Miami Vice, I think Bad Boys was way more Miami than this flick...they did not do the song at the start, the boat scenes were weak, and love scenes did not fit, the film jumped around too much, hard to tell who was who, and Colin was a horrible actor
This could have been much better, hopefully Bad Boys 3 will make up for it, but Mann should have called this one Broke Back Bullets :D Jimbo :D |
Re: Miami Vice
Sorry, but there were so many things wrong with that movie from a believability standpoint-forget that the actors were just walking through the roles. I was very disappointed, but what do expect from a couple of overrated pretty boys. I say throw them to Sonny's alligator and start over.

Re: Miami Vice
It was pretty good i thought. More darker with drug cartels & the underground world which we know nothing about! The firepower was awesome and something u wouldnt have seen on tv in the 80's! :D
Ditto on the boat action.......not even close after reading the making of it in Powerboat mag! :( |
I liked it. Mann used similar filming techniques as he did with the original series, which was cool.
Decent soundtrack also, 3 songs from Audioslave. |
Re: Miami Vice
Small world .....
Ran into an old friend yesterday that I hadn't seen in a few years ........ We were at sneeky Petes having a cold one ....... Asked if he'd seen the movie yet, or was planning to ........ Said No, wasn't planning on either.......... Said in the origional movie though he'd hide in the big Chris while Don Johnston drove, and later go, and park it for him ............ Yea, I forgot that his dad was part owner of Chris Craft at the time ......... Yup, I felt kinda small.............LOL... I did see the movie later on that evening ......... I thought it was pretty good, very dark and different from the origional .......... And, Anytime "Go Fast Boats" are center stage, It get's things pumping for me ...... |
Re: Miami Vice
Can't wait to see the letters to the editor in next months Powerboat magazine!! All the hype in the July issue over the boat scenes. I saw it Saturday night and was disapointed as well. A little too dark for me, even though it was effective in some scenes. TWO shower sex scenes? How 'bout being a little more creative... just my opinion!

Re: Miami Vice
If I hadn't seen the original, I still wouldn't have liked it. Since I did see the original, I know why I didn't like it. Wrong actors, wrong boat, wrong car. Could have been filmed in New Jersey for all they showed of Miami. I didn't expect it to keep the 80's theme, but it could have stuck more to the original in style ie: sunny- hot weather, hot women who spoke english, a star that looked good- not like he woke up in an alley, a boat without corporate sponsors. It still could have been a good movie with abandoning all those things, but it wasn't. Convoluted story line, not the greatest plot, underdeveloped characters, lame soundtrack. I think there were only 2 people in the movie that spoke english and I couldn't understand them half the time and they never did solve the case. If they would have given the Pacino character a boat and sent him undercover, Heat would have been a better Miami Vice. To top it off $9 for two large Cokes. That was the one chance for a good movie and possibly a sequel and I think they blew it. Hopefully enough people see it by accident or because they just can't help themselves that they will consider another and start from scratch.

Re: Miami Vice
I saw the movie last last with a couple of other boaters, I thought it was a good flick but wished it had the race scene in it . :drink:

Re: Miami Vice
I enjoyed the movie but would have enjoyed it more if
1) opening with original theme and Hiallea Flamingos 2) A car scene with the Atr Deco Neon of Ocean avenue in background 3) Smugglers bluesduring a boat scene 4)Original Phil Collins In the air tonigh durin Movie 5)Open with deleted boat racin 4 min would tie into characters would have given more credibility to Crocket and Tubbs for being smugglers (The stereotype) 6) Make room for above by cutting 4 min out of dancing and love scenes Collin Farrel was ok but needed a better Crocket Movie then would have been just right |
Re: Miami Vice
A bad imitation of the original tv series at best. Colin Ferrel and Jamie Foxx were not the actors needed to imitate/replace D.J. or P.M.T.
It seemed more like a platform for Colin Ferrel's career than an action movie. Personally thought that the best acting in the movie was the girl that played Gina, she had some of the sarcasam and attitude from the original Miami Vice. |
Re: Miami Vice
Nothing to brag about at all......i went into the thearter expecting ot to be like it was in the 80's show and it wasn;t....the movie was mainly base on crocket falling in LOVE  .......what i think would have been BADASS is like ( like my dad said) a return of the series " Calderone's " part 3 that his son comes back again to kill crockett and tubs...something that had to do something with the tv show....that's my 002

Re: Miami Vice
The story line (and indeed several scenes) were right out of the "Smuggler's Blues" episode. I thought the gun battles were excellent and the acting was passable. The film quality was very grainy were I saw it also - the film was dark and gritty enough without so-so film quality. Still the 1985 borrowed story line was strong. I'd give the film a seven rating and I'd see a sequel if they decided to do one.

Re: Miami Vice
There was acting in the movie? Not sure since I could not hear anything they were saying. Or could be because I was grossed out by close in shots of sweaty skin pores on two ugly people in a shower.
I think some illegal aliens/democrats just voted in favor of the movie...they voted multiple times, and the pro movie poll total suddenly leaped! |

Talk about a good Phil Collins cover --- have you heard "Land of Confusion" by Disturbed ? Actually, that`s a Genesis cover, but Phil was singing.... One of my favorite songs right now ! |
Re: Miami Vice
What the hell happened to all the race boat scenes that were advertised / promised in POWERBOAT???? No explanation for the Supercat parked in the backyard??? Could have done without the Asian love seens. I got more wood from the MTI anyway..... What a waste......

Going to watch the movie tonight so I hope you guys have not crushed what I THINK its going to be but we will see. I think I am a little more forgiving than some of you but we will see. Grainy is something I am not going to like though, In today's world with the digital technology and crisp clear filmstrips and video strips, that is not acceptable. Especially on a what, 40 foot wide screen? Ahhh no. |

Re: Miami Vice
the oriential chick, man she has a real busy hole
LOL You got no real intro to the characters, and when did "Gina" become a blonde, sharp shooter that is into high tech spy equipment? She was a Vice Prostitute in the TV show. Gun fights were pretty cool but I see what you guys were talking about with the grainyness and out of focus half the movie. That annoyed me, the plot was ALL OVER the place, you could never get a handle on where it was going. Castillo is now a fat black guy? Whats with that? CASTILLO, Name sort of inidcates some sort of Cuban, central American spanish type name. And you guys are right, Colin Farrell is just not cut out to be Sunny Crockett, Whats the best is the trailers on Miamivice.com all the scenes in the entire trailer were completely edited out of the movie. So the stuff you expect to see WACK got chopped. Thats not cool!!!! I would give it a 5 out of 10 Oh and you still never knew what happened to the drugs at the end. 2 guys jumped in the donzi's and just disappeared (cops) |
Re: Miami Vice
Saw it last night late sunday p.m. I would give it an eight only b/c the two Donzis look good coming into Gov. Cut at night. That was the best scene!
|
Re: Miami Vice
Seen it two times. Best comment I have heard is that it was a good action movie that should never been called Miami Vice. Its true. Watch the movie without making an association to the TV show and you'll love it. Watch the movie thinking it should have ANYTHING to do with the TV show and it falls short.
And this is coming from a guy that named his dog Crockett! |

Miami Vice Trivia Question...
What color did Michael Mann avoid using at all costs in the original series? |
Re: Miami Vice
I voted "I Refuse to see it" because I am waiting for the DVD so I can watch the boat scenes.
