Default Boat Insurance For Canadians

I'm picking up my new Sunsation 32SS (525's) in a couple of weeks and trying to get all my paperwork in order. Today I was quoted $8000 Cdn ($7000USD) a year which totally shocked me. I have about 250hrs on my Baja 25OL and no accident claims of any kind.....vehicle or boat or house or...... Can anyone give me the names of insurance companies that will insure in Canada.........OR is this really what these guys are charging for a boat like this??....if so, I'm not insuring it!

Try Ogilvy and Ogilvy. Or, give everything you own to state farm to insure and the boat will be cheap.

Sutphil...Edmonton Alberta but do most of my boating in BC.

Airpacker...I'll try Olgivy and Olgivy thx. To change everything to State Farm would be difficult with the business etc.

Can you purchase just Fire and Theft for a boat like you can for a car or does it always come as a package?

My Nor Tech is insured by McMichael Davis. Ask for Scott McM.... #'s 888-821-8833 or 905-847-1616.
8K sounds high to me. My NT costs 11K plus another 1K for Florida coverage.

Thanks Bob. I'll call Scott in the morning although the other US companies I've rec'd leads on don't insure up here for some reason.

McM, Davis are in Oakville or Missisauga, ON. Until this year I had been using insurers from the US. My boat is registered in Ontario so it was no problem to get a policy here. My cost dropped from 17,000 USD to 12,000 CAD. Think I was paying too much down there.

Scott is charging about 900 for the old sporty. Full replacement value is the only way to go.

i have a 36 nor-tech cat 2005.i have agreed value policy and it cost 3%of the value of the boat.it would be 2%for a v-bottom(all risk).do the math yourself and you will find out that insurance are not cheap but you never know when you gonna need it.750.00 more for pokerruns coverage.price is in cdn.i called everywhere and for me here in montreal quebec, the only one for a cat is ted at ogylvie/ogylvie
