When you think about South beach where all the clubs and people watching go on.. you're talking inbetween 5th and 15th streets. The farther you find a hotel away from this area, the nicer and quieter it tends to be. remember, most bars/clubs stay open to 5 AM so getting a hotel in the middle of it may give you more than you bargain for. FWIW, the beachfront area itself extends way way beyond 15th street so finding beach front and a short cab ride away is fairly easy. In fact, I can guarantee that nobody staying at RIU (30th street?)is going to walk it down to South beach... so if you haven't found a place yet... no harm extending the search out to 40th or whatever since it's still going to be a short cab ride. --- John
