For the record, the badazz winds stirring up Lake Michigan (remember the "gales of November" from Gordon Lightfoot's Edmund Fitzgerald?) come from the northeast, hence the term "noreasters".
Also (you know who you are), its not a troft, its a trough, and if that's what makes 8s feel like 12s, then what do 12s feel like? Lastly, if this rough-water-boat issue ever gets to a face to face resolution....I got ten bucks on the "Shogun"! |

I've been out in Lake Erie in 10 footers or so. We were in a 29' Wellcraft, 2900 Express Cruiser. I was under 10 at the time. I curled up into a little ball and went to sleep. That twin-inboard cruiser was completely out of the water more than once, though, props and all. That's the only time I saw my dad put on his life jacket. We were heading for Cedar Point from the Detroit River but we diverted to Put-In-Bay because it was closer. |

They don't have to. A straight north wind or south wind will stir up Lake Michigan more than the equivalent northeast wind. A northeast wind will do a number on Lake Erie, though.
