Drives are painted

3 Attachment(s)
Last winter I picked up a couple of rebuilt 3as for my Cig project. Unfortunatly, they were painted red. Preparation being essential to any good paint job, I proceeded to sand off as much of the red paint as possible, split the upper and lower housings, remove the front and back covers to prep them for the best paint job that I could possibly apply. I finnished shooting the color on the pieces last night at about 11:00 pm. I took a few pictures throughout the process that I would like to share with my OSO brothers and sisters.

The last of them. Now. I have to wait for the paint to set up real well so I can re-assemble them and apply the new decals.

Thanks guys. I used PPG DP 90 epoxy primer followed by three coats of PPG Delstar acrylic enamel with DXR 80 catalist.

great job roger those stands are the chit for doing it right! for some reason enamel seems to hold up really well in salt water even though i would never use it on a car.

Roger, I kind of liked the color of the grean tape. Black would've been my second choice.
Looks good.

Re: Drives are painted

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Payton; I know what you mean about the green tape, It's kind of a nice
touch. Hated to get paint on it..... :D

Just for the record, the stand that the upper sits on is bolted to the metal frame of the lower stand by a 9/16 bolt through the center. In the picture it looks like it might just be sitting on top of the plywood top, when in fact, it is very sturdy.

Thanks. Slow but making a little progress. I have all my new panels and rebuilt and new gauges now. Next project is to finnish up the motor plates and mounts. I am going to have to wait untill spring to work on the boat itself because the shop where it is stored is'nt heated.

They look great Roger. Too bad that you have to put them in that dirty old lake water. But I bet when the time comes, you'll be able to get over it. :D

Hey Roger, those stands look awesome as well. Did you make those? Also are the drives on the stand backwards? Wouldn't the slot go towards the boat or am I missing something?

Yes, I made them and thanks for the compliment. The opening is to the rear so when you pick the drive up with a cherry picker you can pull the stand away.
Here is a link to the thread about the stands.
