Cumberland is our home lake. We arrived at our place on Cumberland tonight and are here through the Poker Run next weekend. If you can't find a slip at the State Dock then you can probably find one here at our home marina Grider Hill. It's the last card stop on the poker run and the closest marina to the falls.
Give me a yell if anyone has any questions about Cumberland. |

Re: Lake Cumberland, Who's going!
If anyone needs your boat transported to Lake Cumberland pokerrun or any other event give me a call at 423-368-4468 or pm me. I just live 2.5 hrs from there. I could drop your boat on Thurs, or Friday and pick back up on Sunday. $1.85 per loaded mile, I'm out of Tennessee so i'm right between most states.

Re: Lake Cumberland, Who's going!
I know the last thing anyone wants to think about is a Poker run. I am so upset this weekend. I think I'm canceling going to Lake Cumberland next weekend. Has anyone heard if things are being canceled or any updates? Unfortunatly I paid up front for everything including the 70 ft house boat. If anyone is intersted in renting the boat let me know. The incident yesterday is going to change a lot of things. My attitude is different for sure. Please let me know if anyone has heard anything.

Re: Lake Cumberland, Who's going!
Although what happened is certainly a tragedy of the greatest magnitude, I think some comfort should be taken from the thoughts mentioned in an earlier post on the other thread. None of us know how we will go, or when, and if given the choice..most I think would prefer to go out doing something they love. I only met Bruce and Myra once, and it was at Lake Cumberland last year. Very nice people who loved the sport but also recognized the danger that is out there. One of my friends that was with me at Cumberland last year recalled a conversation that he had had with them concerning the risks involved, and how they prefer to only run the runs alone in their boat in case anything ever happened. Like I said, what happened is a tragedy, but it is also an accident. Gino, please keep in mind what the majority of OSO'ers asked of you earlier in the year when you were having your heart problems. The majority urged you to find a way to keep participating in the sport you seem to love so much. I think you should try to keep that mindset when considering future poker runs. Will we all be a little more leary out there now??? Sure, but that is a good thing. Well I still look forward to meeting you this weekend in Cumberland. Hopefully you will be there and be running strong. Chuck Allen

Re: Lake Cumberland, Who's going!
Gino, we have only met once at the cumberland poker, that being said I lost my dad to a boating accident in 92. He was doing what he loved to do, it took a long time for me to get back into boating (8+ yrs). The people in the accident wouldn't want everyone to stop boating and mourn the passing, but celebrate their lives everytime you fire the motors up. My dad is never far from me when I'm behind the wheel of my boat, that is when i feel the closest to him. Look forward to seeing you this year at cumberland, if not take care of yourself, and never give up what you love. Rob Schroeder.

We loved seeing Nashville Catz last year as well and I have many pics of their awesome boat. We will be going this year as spectators but more mindful than ever of the dangers of this wonderful high speed sport that we all love so much. |
Re: Lake Cumberland, Who's going!
There are six Black Thunders coming from Lake of the Ozarks for the poker run. (Black Jack) PS, My prayers go out to Bruce Gibson in his lost of his wife, I've known Bruce and Myra for a long time, and have done alot of Poker Runs with them. They are great people and alot of fun to be around. When it came to running their boats it was all professional and the safety of all other boaters.

Re: Lake Cumberland, Who's going!
KY Lake crew will be arriving Thursday morning and others on Friday morning.
|
Re: Lake Cumberland, Who's going!
I'll be there. First run for the new boat. Is Lexington the best airport?
Joe: It will be good to see the Black Thunder. I love that boat. |
Re: Lake Cumberland, Who's going!
As a friend of Bruce's, I am still feeling sick :( . But I think he would want us to carry on, so my crew and I will be there.
I think a large Nashville/MCPA contingent still plans to show. Steve |
Re: Lake Cumberland, Who's going!
Biggus,
I will be flying in on Friday night. Leaving boat at home and riding wth Paul. Let me know where you are staying. OD |
Re: Lake Cumberland, Who's going!
Weather permitting we will still run, but with heavy hearts.

Anyone need a room? We have a room set up at the State Dock Motel and we won't be able to make it.

Re: Lake Cumberland, Who's going!
Anyone that's stayed at Jamestown in the past:
Do they allow pets, such as small dogs in the cabins? I'm in a dilemma now because my dog's babysitter is coming too. It's a small dog, doesn't bark unless provoked, accustomed to long stays indoors without messing in the floor, and keeps to himself well. Wonder if I could get away with taking him? |
Re: Lake Cumberland, Who's going!
Originally posted by Cat Daddy1 The Lake Cumberland Poker Run is Saturday and I would like to remind everyone of the course and a few safety tips. The first group will leave at 10:00 AM. So, the main lake from State Dock to Burnside will be busy with Poker Run boats from then till around 12:30. After lunch, from around 1:00 till 5:00 the boats will be between Camp Earl Wallace and Grider Hill. If you plan to be in these areas at these times, please stay off to the side and give these fast boats as much room to run as possible. It seems that the most dangerous situations are caused by a spectator trying to get a closer look. If you want to see the boats up close, come to State Dock. Personally, I love to watch the boats run but I think they're more impresssive at the dock (unless of course, you get the chance to ride in one!) If you have kids, it's a good idea to keep them off the waverunners and out of the water. It's only a few hours and there's plenty of coves and creeks that would be a safer place for swimming and skiing. We have changed the starting order this year and the fast boats will be leaving first. This should spread the field and reduce passing. If you're in the starting area, please stay back. The Lake Cumberland Power Boat Association will be helping us clear the area to provide a safer start. The boats will start in groups of 20 or less. For mor information on the course, go to www.lakecumberlandpokerrun.net . We pray for a safe event, good judgement from participants and spectators and a beautiful day on Lake Cumberland. |

Re: Lake Cumberland, Who's going!
I will be coming down through Indiana and through Louisville. Is it better to come across I64 then down Rt 127, or is it better to come down I65 and cut across east on the tollway?
I will not be towing a boat, so just coming in the car. |
Re: Lake Cumberland, Who's going!
I64 to 127 South. Straight shot. Joe Murray
