Interesting? But if this was the case wouldn't it stay continuously beeping until I got it unstuck?

Most of the time it is the gear lube monitor. But if you eliminate that,there are 27 other things that set off the beep. Eliminate the gear lube ,then get a Merc dealer to plug in his scan tool.Shouldn't cost a lot,and then you will know for sure. But 99% of our problems are gear lube. :p

I agree. Will probably pull boat this weekend, summer is coming to a quick end in NJ, and will have it scanned when sch'd for winterization.
