Bob Z. alternative ariports to check with rental car would be the Newport News/Williamsburg airport (PHF) and 1 hour away from the south, or a little further Norfolk airport (ORF) approximately 90 minutes away. Richmond is somewhat limited and not always the cheapest in this area.
Hotels to keep everything within walking distance are the Omni (acroos the street), and the Crowne Plaza (few blocks away).
