Small sticker here in Rhode Island aswell.

I have noticed you get more attention. Due to the fact
that most boats have the numbers.

Some harbour masters Say. " I take it your boat is documented".

I have to shut engines down and remove headsets
just to hear what there asking.

But, usualy thats one less ya have to answer to again.

Ohio also requires small registration sticker. No OH numbers. Still must pay sales tax, and they WILL find you if you don't.

The sheriff is wrong. State Law is derived from federal law. Each state must follow 33 CFR part 173 specifically 173.33 registration numbers shall be removed when a vessel is documented.

The federal boating safety money given to each state is based upon vessel registrations; therefore documented boats may be registered with the state but shall not display registration numbers hence the sticker only.

You are also required to display a vessel name & hailing port.

I put the state #'s on anyway. Many local law officials don't know anything about a"Documented Vessel" and will stop you anyway. I got tired of explaining it. Even though it is explained on the back to the license sticker when you peel it off!

I agree to this. However, Most Harbour masters up here
would take it the wrong way if I tried the education approach.

Better to yes sir no sir. Have a great day.
