Which boat is better in terms of construction, handling and performance?
Both boats are about the same except for power and ones a ZX model and the other is a Daytona model.
'98 is the Daytona with HP500's asking 70K.
'00 is a ZX with 502's asking 65K.
Help.

What is going on here?
A fellow boater is seeking advice from the elite members of Offshoreonly! If you can't get answers from what I consider the best place for seeking advice or "How to do's" and just general conversations with other people that live this sport and have experienced the thrill first hand and not from a magazine or trying to fix something from a manual. This is the place for answers.
So can you help a fellow boater out?

I had a 33 with 502's just a little sluggish for my taste. I now have a 33 with 500's and it really wakes the boat up. I do believe the 00 is a much better hull design than the 98. I don't think they made a change until 99 to the new twin step and I think the 00 were improved from the 99. They both seem pretty cheap for that much boat.

The '98 was a late build so it has the twin step and has '99 power and Daytona options. It should have been classified as a '99 than a '98 but technically the hull was made late in '98 and finished in early '99.
Keep the advice coming

The Daytona's had a stick built cabin, and the regular ZX have a fiberglass lined cabin. The Daytona's were a little faster with the same power because they were built a little lighter.

I would look at both boats. If you can, get a ride in both. Then you will know which one you would be most happy with. The price seems good on both of them. If the 98 has the same botton as the 2000, I would be leaning towards that one because of the motors. See how each one was taken care of. Good luck! Remember, it is a buyers market. Take your time and get the right boat for yourself! Oh and don't be fooled by my avitar, that is just my wishful thinking
I do not own any boat as of now

I Had The 38 Zx Non Daytona With 500 Efi's. I Ran Against A Guy With Daytona 38 With 575's And It Was Fastttttt. 84ish Comp To My 74ish. I Heard The Daytona Can Be As Much As 10% Lighter Layup. I Would Look Hard At Hours On Both Motors To See How Much You Are Going To Have To Put Into Both To Get Them Ready For You To Run. I Do Not Know If I Would Pay 5k More For 2 Years Older Because The Motors Have Depreciated To Comparable Numbers Plus The 500 Hps Need More Maintenance. I Would Compare The Condition Of The Boats And Then Decide If The Speed Difference Is Worth It To You. I Do Know That The 33 Is Much More Reasonable Now, A Matter Of Fact Loto Has A Holdover 2005 I Believe That Can Be Bought For Just Over 100k New. Good Luck.
