I am wondering the same thing. I just saw in Hot Boat mag that Merc is now going to sell the NXT SSM drive. It's a #6 mated to a NXT transome assembly.
If they are only selling NXT with the 700sci, why now the #6? Doesn't the NXT hold up? Or is just for the engine location?

Some boat manufacturers have tested as well as Mercury with the #6 and found that some boats have picked up a few MPH with swapping over. The only other thing you have to do is add a transom water pick up and maybe a larger sea strainer.

I'd rather have the 6's over the NXT's...wonder what the up charge is going that way on the 700SCi's?

Fountain recalled a few boats with the 700's in them to put the #6 drive on. Now the only way to get a get with 700's is with a #6.

I have been told Fountain is only putting sixes on the 700 pkg. Rumor is at high speed the blunt nose on the NX1 gearcase made the boat wander.

So the transom assembly is that similar to a number six that it can be bolted right up??

I wonder how much HP the clutch/transmission system on the NXT can handle? I heard they were having trouble with that as well??

Anyone else have intel on this... My drive guys told me some W. coast guys were switching the lowers w/ the six's, but I'd think the h2o pick-up would cause the boat to slow right back down (even if the six drive lower was/is more efficient).

Anyone know how they're doing this and/or actually experienced/seen one?

Thanks,
Joe

P.S. What is the weight diff. between the NXT/Six lower (w/ gears in them)?

Joe-
Who are you using for your drive work and are they in Houston? Not trying to hijack the thread, but I don't know anyone in Houston who is "qualified" to work on #6s and I may need work done some day.

Thanks
John
