Smitty here on OSO has some motors done by him. Dave is picky and I've never heard him say a bad word about Tyler.

Tyler is a great engine builder, He did a couple of whippled engines for me. They started and ran great. He also worked with GM on testing, teardown and reporting on the 496's for development of the engines for racing. I think they are called the HP4? He also worked with raylar on a package for their 496 upgrades.

Tyler is as good as they come. He tuned and dynoed my 502 with a procharger he did a great job. Made 740hp and 740 ft. lbs. of torque. He just built a 540 with a Whipple for a friend of mine. It had some tuning problems so he flew here to Va. to work on it. Got the problems all worked out and ran 102.4 in a 29 Fountain during the Potomac Radar Run.

So thats the big secret... ok I'm taking notes :evilb:

All kidding aside Tyler is a stand up guy and even though I bought a boat with the competition(blue) motor in it, he has helped me out with any questions that I had and has done some work for me. Hes been in the business some 20 odd years now, you dont last that long putting crap out.

JBoat,
I think you have the idea by now as to Tyler Crockets' reputation.
There are a number of good/reputable engine builders out there. Tyler is indeed one that is at the top of the game. Not only is it true that Tyler has done quite a bit of R&D on the 496 for GM and himself, but he has also built racing engines for a whole fleet of offshore racing teams ranging from A clas, B class, Factory 1 and Factory 2, the old Super V class and a host of Outlaw performance class race boats. He was one of the select few APBA Authorized Factory Racing rebuilders, and has his name on a bunch of offshore, lake and river screamers on the water.
In short, Don't think twice about the power, just make sure the rest of the boat is OK.

Tyler's upgraded/built three engines for me and all are still running flawlessly. He builds for reliability and torque - exactly what you need in a boat. When I visited his shop he showed me a set of 496 heads that he upgraded by reshaping the combustion chamber, porting, etc. and they looked great. He was on the ground floor with GM on the 496 development.

I have approximately 400 hours on blower motors with no problems to date. I recently had compression tests conducted and they still are strong. I do change the oil regularly and don't abuse the engines. Tyler is a stand up guy and I would recommend him to anyone. He will always do my serious engine work.

Tyler tuned my blown 540 on the dyno,he was one of the first guys to be able to rtune mefi3's and has done develipmental work for gm. You could eat off the floor of his engine assembly room. If I didn't know how to build my own motors he is one of the few guys I would trust to do it,Smitty

Tyler installed the upgrade kit you linked on your original post to our 454MAG this year. The boat, 2000 Checkmate 259 Convincor, went from 65mph to 72mph @ WOT with the kit and a different prop. Could not be happier with his work.

Tyler tunned some motors for us one of them was a 540 with a M-4 Procharger it made 1100HP and 1200 torque. It runs great and it still running to this day and that was 3 or 4 years ago.

Tyler is a great guy, as you have seen. He did the "turn key" motor for the 29 Fountain that I rigged. We had a few issues, mostly related to "bolt on" components, and Tyler made sure that all problems were resolved. He also flew to Virginia, to "tune" the engine in the boat. That made an enormous difference in the economy and operation of the engine. In addition he made some extra efforts to help Boost :evilb: some additional performance for a local radar shoot. Great guy.

All he did was remove the stripper pole and Chris from it and it went 8 mph faster. :evilb:

I owe Tyler a BIG thank you from an incident a few years ago... we were at the ramp at a poker run in the thousand Islands. We had a big Skater with Mercs and a cross threaded spark plug hole. Tyler was on a day off relaxing when he came by. After seing our situation he crawled in the bilge cleaned out the thread with a tap and saved the day.

Note; not his motor and on holidays he got dirty for some guys he never met before.

I can only imagine how far he would go for a real customer.

If I wasn't clear that day Tyler, "Thank you".

Yes Masher he has.
He had a killer motor in Destin for Dukes to run up against, but unfortunately his boat's bottom couldn't withstand the torture any longer.... :(

That would have been a tight race with him and the Dukes.
