Saw that show last week...awesome ship! I find myself watching a lot of the Military channel.

I saw the show too , pretty impressive how they were building the ship while still designing it. A family business / builder built it.

The diesels are only used for cruising as we all know they are slow. For speed running they would switch to the turbines. It was wild to watch that thing run on TV and the big deal they made when they were switching over. I acutally laughed out loud during the program as it was almost like Captain Kirk calling for warp drive from impluse drive.

Uss Crockett. late 60's
13,000 hp will get your 285 full load tons 0-40 knts in 60 sec.
