This is the future of windshields: Hard coatings!
This process puts a very hard silicate film over the windshield for scratch and chemical resistance. I'd say the #1 enemy of acrylic windshields is Windex (ammonia) and this takes care of the problem.
Polycarbonates are very soft, scratch easily and absorb moisture - The coating is a must.
The process looks simple, but almost a quarter of a mil later we think we know what we're doing.
Like Shields, we've been developing coatings for the last couple of years. We've just made an investment in a bigger clean room so that we can offer the OEM's coated windshields right down to bass boats.
