I recently learned that gasoline must never be stored in plastic containers. It seems that many of the chemical compounds added to the petroleum base (for lubrication, octane enhancement, atc) are so aromatic that they actually will evaporate through the plastic. This came directly from VP Race Fuels. They said you can lose 10+ points in octane in a week.
I saw "jug" and I always associate that with "plastic". |

Along with snowmobile, 4 wheelers, dirt bikes, etc. Not sure about in the ground storage tanks. To be honest I thought light affected the high octane fuel more than the container. A tight sealed container is equally important as well. |

Good info, I actually have a 55gal drum in my garage that my insurance company would have a fit over, I just transfer to the marina in 5 gal PLASTIC (I admit it) jugs.
I also asked about temporary storage as the fuel sits in the race bike's tanks for hours and sometimes overnight. They said no problem- it takes at least 24 hours for anything measurable to happen. |
