The catamarans seem to "get on top of the water", and the air pack has to help cushion the impact. But sometimes the sponsons don't land at the same time causing sponson hook. Maybe the asymetrical thrust of only one prop in the water contributes/detracts to the hook.

In the rougher offshore races(are they offshore any more?)-key west comes to mind- the large catamarans (Nuff Respect, Alcone) ran away from the vee's if my memory is correct.
