At least they give the disclaimer, and tell you what happened. It would be worse if it was bought , rebuilt and then sold with no knowledge. Thanks for the heads up Cash.

Good luck to them getting 75k for what's left of that boat.:(

I guess the insurance company doesn't care if the next owners are seriously injured or killed.

I would never want a boat that some one was killed in but I am sure that they will sell eventually......

Here's the story for anyone who doesn't remember what this was all about.

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=70023

The ad doesn't mention that there was a fatality. Even if I was buying a crashed boat for just the drives, I'd want to know if someone was killed in the accident, ya know?

Was that the 36 that rolled out on the ocean off NJ a few years ago?

I don't think anyone died on the Honeyman roll.

Re: Beware this boat for sale....

I don't see the importance of knowing about the loss of life involved. A buyer is buying the boat, which is very obvious of it's condition from the pictures, even stating the type of accident, not the personal result of the accident.

If knowing a death was involved because it gives ya the creepies, that's a personal matter.

I owned a motorcycle that was involved in accident where the owner was killed. I knew it, bought it, rode, sold it. Still alive too I might add. :) It even had some battle scares, chopped front fender as a reminder.

As far as the price and condition of the boat itself, I'd pass. But not because of the death involved. Just my .02

Re: Beware this boat for sale....

What may happen is the boats will be sold to someone who fixes them up then resells them at some point to someone who doesn't know the history. A nice paint job can cover a lot of flaws.

What about the tens of thousands of heavily crashed vehicles they sell- or demand be repaired instead of totalled? Can you imagine carrying your family around in a car constructed from the front half of one and the back of another?

With these boats, you can see it all. And, if you're stupid enough to patch it together and propel it to 100+, you get what you get.

I have alwys driven "totals" I put most of them together myself, and I would trust them more than a brand new vehicle that came off the assembly line. Who is putting that one together? What about a classic with a frame off restore? it's the same thing, probably better parts put into in then new.

My dad once drove the smartest car in Texas, when he bought the car it had brain matter all over then interior.

Welcome to Offshoreonly.com! :D

That "roll over" is one of the most talked about events I can remember on OSO. It was pulled in by the stolen Rice Hauler Cigarette and sparked an enormous discussion on the whereabouts of the Cigarette.

The Honeyman did a slow roll at roughly 40mph. It was back on the water the next weekend. It's one of the best looking 36 Classics out there by my tastes.

I rented an apartment with my new wife that was just recently vacant. The previous tenant was killed in a cycle wreck. At least the landlord told me. Didn't bother me but I wouldn't buy a boat where someone was killed in a wreck.

Owning a car, bike, or house associated with a death wouldn't bother me.
Having someone tell me about it after I bought said item would.

:

Not the same boat as Rice Hauler. It looked very similar and the owner keeps going through perpetual hassles from this mistaken identity.

Look at P.4 in the Rice Hauler thread in "Stolen Boats"

Well don't quote me on this, but I believe they were going much faster before the roll happened. When the driver cut the throttles and the boat started to rapidly lose speed (forcing all the fuel and 5-6 passenger weight forward), he turned the wheel and it spun/rolled over at about 40mph. Again, this is just the story I got.

Coincidentally, I heard just this morning that the boat has sold and is headed for Oklahoma.

It was at Lake Pleasant in Phoenix Az. a couple of years ago. They were in a tight turn and hit a wake...Boat rolled. At least that is their story.

That is not exactly true. I'm the one that posted the info from Hotboats website about people saying it wasnt the same boat.

However, if you read on a bit on the recovered thread, there was an eye witness there that says they are two different boats and the boat towing Honeyman was in fact Rice Hauler. Not to mention Rob (old owner of Rice Hauler) explained that that boat was a 1 off custom painted boat and he confirmed it was his boat in the photo of it towing the skater. There was also people that saw the "Rice Hauler" on Lake Pleasant that day that stated the boat had black tape over the name on the back. WTF?

Cash Bar 01-30-2007 12:41 PM

Re: Beware this boat for sale....

There were two boats painted similarly. The boat was definitely Rice Hauler as was stated by the recovery officers....

Re: Beware this boat for sale....

F.Y.I. You can't always blame the Insurance company. In some cases they just pay the note on the boat and its up to the wife or benefacter to trash it or sell it.
I guess it comes down to if you are so desperate to purchase a boat for less and you want one that three people died in, the side of the hull was ripped open and the seats were ripped out of, thats up to you.

I would have no problem with the above, I have a car that was my uncle's pride and joy that I got when he passed and driving it is a great tribute to him.

I would not buy a boat (or car)knowing someone died in it due to an accident. Same thing with a house. I am sure the original owner of my house died of natural causes in the house and that is ok with me. However, if there was an un-natural act that caused the death (fire, murder, etc.) that would change my thoughts. I guess it is a little superstitious but I don't like the idea of owning something that is jinxed or has that kind of history. Bad karma if you will.

I would NOT own a boat or car that someone had DIED in or on.....

Most likely from location, and the size of the monthly nut. I know one guy who sold one restaraunt at least four times. He would always hold the note, then repo it when they couldn't make the payments, but he already had the downstroke in his bank account. Btw, that same place is now owned by Friends of Strays, and has been for years.

Re: Beware this boat for sale....

No, Cuda, I mean in generalization. Remember, it's my business. There are certain places that just never make it, regardless of location or even if a national chain moves in.

About 25 yrs ago a man chopped off his wife's head at their home. The house sold for super cheap dollars right away.

I don't think I could move into a home like that then dreaming of heads rolling down the basement stairs.
