What's the deal with all the women backing in the truck and trailers? My husband and I have a system: We pull in the parking lot and I and our four children get into the boat, I turn on the batteries and blower and he backs ME down. I lower the drives and start both engines and back off the trailer and get out of the way while he parks the truck and trailer. When he starts walking down to the docks, I will then proceed to pick him up. We are at the ramp about a minute.
And this is in a 1999 36' Baja Outlaw on the Mighty Mississippi. My number one pet peeve is watching the women holding a rope walking along side the trailer being backed down the ramp. Then standing their holding the rope while their husband's park the truck and trailer. What a waste!!! I like to rotate my women, so I don't keep 'em around long enough to learn how to drive my boat:drink: I actaully think that is great that you can help your husband like that...and it helps everyone else who is waiting to use the ramp after you. About the rope comment.....most of the girls that come on my boat want to feel like they are contributing so I ask them to walk down with the boat, ropes in hand (even though it is not really necessary)...makes them feel like they are doing something. |
at my ramp: people putting thier boats into the water in the OUT ramp... and vice versa.
And what grinds my gears the most...boater putting on their trailer tie-downs while still in the ramp...you can do that outside of the ramp! |

i've got a pretty good system going where I will back the boat down the ramp with my brother in it, he cruises around then picks me up once I park the truck. and when we come in the same thing, he drops me off and cruises then we load the boat on the trailer. all in all about 30 seconds on the ramp. what I do not understand is why people insist on not only getting the boat ready on the ramp, but when someone is pulling it out to stop on the ramp and put the straps on, that is what the parking lot is for. There really should be a list of rules at ever ramp and fines for idiots
