Lake Travis, Texas

I am in the process of relocating back to Texas and will be doing most of my boating on Lake Travis. I am looking at storage options and wanted to get some input from people with local knowledge. I am still evaluating what type of storage is available and what will fit our needs. Ideally, I would like a wet slip with lift for the summer months and dry storage in the winter. Dry stacked storage also may be an option if there is a facility on the lake that can handle a 38' boat. Any help on marinas or storage facilities that can accommodate boat and trailer would be appreciated.

Thanks,

The boat has lived in South Florida all of its life, and has seen its fair share of offshore boating. She is looking forward to a little lake boating. However, she will continue to see plenty of poker runs, and spend the winters in South Florida.

Lakeway Marina and Hurst Harbor Marina are good. There is also a nice one at Carlos and Charlie’s but cant remember the name. Clay is probably a good resource.

Lake Travis Marinas

There are several good marinas on Lake Travis. No one will dry stack anything longer than 29 feet. :(

I keep my 31 foot Bullet at West Beach Marina. I pay $325 for a 10 x 28 covered slip with non-potable water (for washing the boat) and shore power included.

Emerald Point Marina is the marina near Carlos'N Charlie's.

Others include VIP Marina, Lakeway Marina, Yacht Harbor Marina, Hurst Harbor Marina (Johnny Fins Floatin' Bar and Grill), and Lake Travis Marina. There are a few more good ones, but I'm tired of typing! :D

More Marina and lake information can be found in the "Links" section of the Lake Travis Powerboat Assn website.

If you can overlook that this is a "Sailor" website, here is a Map of Lake Travis! :p

Welcome back!

Sandy creek marina is a great one also. There is a new Yacht Club That is scheduled to open in about 3 weeks called Rough Hollow, it is a very high end marina with a 5 star resturant, world class swimming pool and amenities.

tesheer 02-23-2007 09:48 AM

Thanks for the information. Any ideas on dry storage long enough to hold boat/trailer? I am guessing a 45' stall should do it.

TxHawk 02-23-2007 11:12 AM

How is the water level?

Wobble 02-23-2007 11:18 AM

I read that it is 24' below February average. Don't know what that means in terms of marina access etc.

JohnJan 02-23-2007 11:21 AM

What water level? This is one summer I won't be dissapointed to not have a boat here.

Yep, I believe so. We should be back at Ticfaw this year in our boat. Last year we rode along with some of our Alabama friends. Out of all the runs we have done, Ticfaw is right up there at the top. Just something about it. I also look forward to doing some of the Houston/Galveston runs. I am sure we will catch up somewhere.

Rough Hollow is located at the second cove in Lakeway. It will be first class! The marina is already built, they are waiting on the buildings, restaurant, etc. to be finished. This is probably the only marina on Lake Travis that will have large docks available. Emerald Point is on a waiting list for 38' and up docks, and I believe Hurst Harbor and Lakeway are full.
I ran my boat on Saturday. The lake is very low, but it's still one of the best lakes in the whole country! Good Luck!

I believe this is Rough Hollow...

rough hollow yacht club will not be fully operational until mid summer but the marina will open whithin 30 days. It will be very nice. Sandy creek is up in volente. there is a very good resturant that is open during the summer months called cafe blue.

With the recent rains in Central Texas, Lake Travis has risen from 645 on March 1st to 651 today... and still rising.

Six feet may not sound like much, but it is everything to marinas and local businesses.

Come on rain! :D

That lake can rise FAST. We were there in '02 whan it came up 6" an hour. Nothing like walking on submerged bullnettle and cowpatties. LCRA kicked us off due to rising lake level.

That is a very nice area. A good friend of mine lives there. It is nothing to wake up and see 20 plus deer in your yard.
