21 years and it feels like a month ago. Still till this day I have some levels of denial even though I lived through it... I still remember debating with my sister in Newpot, NJ (literally across the river) that it must have been a Cessna because there was no way a passenger jet could hit a building. Then shortly thereafter arguing with her that the building simply couldnt have collapsed and that she must be mistaken. No matter what I saw my brain told me it wasnt possible. My 10 year old son was talking about it yesterday from the way he learned about it in school versus the way it happened in my memory. Its very different to have lived it.
We still have a lot of lessons to learn from that day and a lot of respect to be given. I still feel like this event should have a holiday and more weight than most holidays. |
