The beam is 8'6". Its a BIG, and I mean BIG, heavy boat. It rides like a pair of Sherman tanks welded together.

Yes, we have owned three 42s and just bought a 2000 45. YES, they have the head room. Bill is 6'2" and he can stand up to take a shower in the 42/45s. Ask us what you want to know.

I am assuming this thing would drink gas like crazy with the three Hp500s. I need the space for the family and am wondering if this Sonic would be a better option that moving to a cabin cruiser. It seems like a great deal on the boat.

My last boat was a 35 Formula.

Thank you for all of the opinions.

All depends...what do u consider"gas hog"? My 386 has triple 500 hp's and costs "over" $100 an hour in fuel...hopefully that helps...U might save in the cruiser but if u float more than cruise (sounds like u will have the family a lot) I'd go with the 45...looks better, faster, u can trailer, and if u buy it right u won't lose as much at resale time and it's easier to work on too.

I always looked at the gas as a weekend thing. My 357 Formula with supercharged 454s was a $200-$300 per weekend boat. I am guessing that extra third engine increases consumption by more than a third.

Thanks again to everyone for all the opinions.

OSO rocks

You or should I say I don't run as hard with a third engine. The Generator runnin all the time will consume more. If gas will make or break your budget. I would get a crusier.

Gas doesn't make ar break the budget. If I had the Sonic I would trailer it into the gas station and pay $1/gal less that buying it on the water in a cruiser.

The wife would love a cruiser. I am still lobbying for the performance boat with a big cabin. :-)

I know the boat and Bruce Bullock, the broker. It's a great pkg. for the price. However, not meaning this in an ugly way, if you're looking to trailer it to and from the gas station, I would highly consider a different boat. That's A LOT of work --- esp. considering how big this boat is.

The boat runs great, and, for it's age, does need the expected TLC..... which is waaaay worth putting into it, for the price.

There's my .02 cents.

Thanks Joe. I am looking for opinions they are all helpful.

Trailering is a pain. I can go to different lakes or the Gulf if I trailer. Where I live there isn't much of a place to boat. So, my choice is to either trailer in which case the cheaper gas is available. Or, getting a slip and limiting my boating to lake Travis.

I definitely see your point. Trailering my 35 Formula was a pain. Trailering this 45 Sonic would be even more so. But, we could stay on it longer. I'd also have to go buy one of those new F450 Fords or something to trailer the thing. My F250 is ready for a trade in anyways.

Thank you
