Mini Cats get layed up this week!
At long last the Metal Bros Racing Pocket Rocket 10' goes into the mold this week, the first 2 hulls will be on display at Desert Storm at the end of April with 1 hull available for demo rides. We have already secured our booth for the weekend with Lake Racer LLC. The on-water demo boat will feature a 25hp Merc EFI 4 stroke and a full Livorsi gauge package as well as a 3 speaker Rockford Fosgate stereo system complete with 8" subwoofer. Both boats will feature paint from Pat Weimer who is best known for his work on the "Gunslinger" tow vehicle as well as several boats hitting the water now. A build up thread will be started soon with updates frequently.
please feel free to post any questions you may have. A few answers to the most common are listed below. Boats will not be made with more than a 40HP motor Both outboard JET and prop are available Boats with a REAL single axel trailer w/ utility box and 40hp Merc EFI will be around 18K, Boats will not be sold as bare hulls nor will they sold without power or trailer unless they are sold for use on a houseboat . As with any custom boat anything is possible. feel free to request anything. Your Metal Bros. That looks like the Cougar Cub that I designed for Cougar in the early 80's. We built it as a stunt, to go along with the racing teams full-size cats. We had the Cub Worlds in Key West in 1983, with 116 entries. All the big guys drove, Copeland, Sirois, Morales, etc. Men's champ, Tommy Akouri, Black Duck, Women's champ, Crystal Girschner, Blue Max.

sweettttttttttttt keep us posted on it .

We stopped in 1985 when the Limeys went home. If you build them light, they run well. We licensed other manufacturers back in the day, including Kaama (Betty Cook, John Connor).

Hull # 3 SOLD to a lucky OSO member, I'll let him decide when to tell you guys the news:D Don't want to steal his thunder:D

I have a 1980 currently under re construction. It ran 30ish with a 25. Its gettin a merc 40 twin :)
Its a wet ride but a real blast on a hot sunny day. |
I had a cougar cub a few years ago that had a 35 evenrude. it ran 32 with me alone in it. I have another cub now but I havent decided what power it will get. a friend has an old 50 merc he said he will give me. probably overkill but hey no guts no glory. should make for some fun.

need some updates .

I have one of the 80's cougar.
Are you putting on short shaft motors? Im thinking of switching to a short shaft motor. I have a long shaft and the bow comes way up before getting on plane. They are a blast to drive if anybody is thinking about getting one.. |

HERE IS THE UPDATE
I am still trying to coordinate getting Dave Sikorski ( Glassdave) down to PHX to assist me with the first two hulls, when they are popped and bonded I can take over from there. Glass is the only part of the process I am new to so I want it done right so I am willing to wait til our schedules work. It really shouldnt be too long now, good things come to those that wait so patience amigos. |
the tricked out new Livorsi shifter has been chosen as standard equipment btw.

You have never layed up boats before and are going to figure it out on just two? I didn't think it was that easy.
What is the update on these? I was following this to see how the first ones ran this summer? When are they expected to be on the water? Andy Yes, after Dave establishes a layup schedule that works well I will lay them up from there, these are very simple hulls with no stringers or odd bracing or bulkheads to deal with. The update as of now is that I need to complete the 2 concert tours that I am running concurrently and that runs until mid OCT, after that we will continue work on the project. One thing I have decided is that all hulls will be layed up in the fasll/winter as doing layups in 115 degree heat is insanely difficult and uncomfortable so the goal is for Dave to escape the frozen tundra of Ohio and come work in the perfect winter weather in the PHX valley. I know it seems as if this is moving a little slow but when the production schedule got pushed back in March it kind of forced a delay that I didn't anticipate. The boats will be great when they are done but as I have stated from the beginning they will be done right so if it takes extra time to make sure that happens so be it. Kind Regards, Kenny |
Just tell Dave you have strippers and beer and he will be there in hours. He don't care about heat and slave labor as long as there are stippers and beer!!!
|
It's been years since I did glass work, however the biggest variable always was temp. I would recommend a climate controlled work area to do the layups. It will make it much easier to get consistent results.
|
Anybody can lay up but it takes a real man to grind.
|
i want one
|
When you vacuum infuse very little grinding to do!!:signs069:
|
We vaccum bag but grind every layer. Hey we even build some boats w/ solid glass bottoms aka the P6 Crockett Rocket. Old school baby!
|
I wish someone would start building the 13' Funcats again. Larry still has the molds in FL. Would love to see them come out a foot wider though and maybe a foot longer.
