Post Pics of your Hatch with scoops
I am trying to decide what way I would like to install scoops on my engine hatch. I need clearance and decided to go with scoops. I just need to think about what scoop to use and placement ie.. facing forward or backward, or getting a scoop that has a rear cutout. Lets see what you have and what kind of scoop it is. Most have mentioned facing the scoops to the rear for noise reasons and to keep water out. This will be on my Formula 357.

I have a 382 hatch with scoops I am taking off and replacing. See thread in Formula section for pics. Audiofn has first dibs if it will work for him, otherwise available if it will work for you.

I have only seen rear facing scoops on some fountains and a 399 Skater V but there is probably more boats with them. don't know the reason for it.

I think hood scoop are sweet, but my lady will not let me buy a boat with them. I imagine a lot of other owners wives feel the same..... which could hurt the resale value. Love the boats with two different engine hatches - one with scoops, another with the sunpad. Just my .02

The pic I posted of the Tiger was a buddies boat. Has twin Teague 1000's in it. We ran that thing in the SCOPE Long Beach poker run and were running weeeeeeell over 90 (into the blowers) for almost the whole trip. I was standing in the back on the starboard side and at the end of the 100 mile run I couldn't hear out of my left ear...Just a loud ring...Lasted for 4 days!
Hope that answers your question. Here's a pic from the actual run. Anyone have noise experience with rear facing scoops? |
RedDog382,
I like the looks on that Formula. Do you know what brand of scoops those are? |

Here are a couple of pics of our scoops. There is also a picture here that shows the plugs we made for them.
Here is a short video that shows the scoops as well. http://media.putfile.com/Apache-Cockpit . . |

How is the noise in the cockpit compared to running them forward? |

The noise (from the scoops) is not objectionable.

Thanks Johny,
Just have to get the paint matched now and start fabbing the hatch. I need to get the screen inserts for them now. Anybody know where to get a set of the inserts to fit these scoops? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ing/scoop1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ing/scoops.jpg |

How about a revival of an old thread...
I have been busy for the last couple of years and have not had a chance do do anything on the boat. i have the scoops almost ready for the hatch. Just have to get the pinstriping finished on the letters and numbers. Does anyone have the grill inserts on the scoops, or should I just get some polished expanded aluminum and cut to fit? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_1223.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_1222.jpg |
