Earthrace - Call For Help!

Dear All,

Earthrace is a bid to break the world record for circumnavigating the globe in a powerboat, using only renewable fuels. She runs solely on Biodiesel B100 sourced from sustainable feedstocks.

Pursuing our dream of promoting renewable fuels and breaking a word record has left us with a few problems I am hoping you can help us out with.
  • We need to find Biodiesel B100 in Egypt and the Canary Islands, do you know of any suppliers? Ideally we are looking to get the fuel costs sponsored by the supplier.
  • We are also looking for sponsors and donations for the project at the time of writing have $200 in the bank and still have a good way to go.

Any help or advice you can give would be appreciated.

Presently the boat is half way through the race and docked in Korror awaiting engine repairs she should be underway by the 26/4.

Follow this link to make a donation and follow our progress:- http://www.earthrace.net

If you would like to get involved in the record attempt or wish to offer sponsorship please e-mail: [email protected]

Please note Earthrace is a non-profit organization.

Thanks in advance

$ 200.00 in the bank? How could you start a trip like that and not plan financially for the entire trip?

Hi,

We did! unfortunatly just before we were to begin the challenge, our main fuel sponsor pulled out on us due to financial problems, we had commitments to other sponsors so had to go for it.

We hoped the media attention would enable us to generate sponsorship as we went along, to some degree it has but we are now in a bad position and looking for help.

As you probably know for an attempt like this we can only start in March or September the equinoxes. We could not afford to wait until September...

THEJOKER 04-26-2007 11:17 AM

Yea sponsor pull out , been there done that. I wish you guy's the best of luck and really admire what you are doing.

TexomaPowerboater 04-26-2007 01:17 PM

Who was your supplier/sponsor that pulled out?
I may have a contact or two, as well as a supply in that area.
Would you be willing to share technical information as to engine performance, repairs, emissions, etc to your sponsor?

Thats pretty doable. Come on guys lets throw out some cash to these guys $80,000 - 40,000 members. Hell if half of us donated just $4.00 they could finish this thing. I'll start - $20.00 - I ain't rich but every little bit helps, especially when you only got $200.

jack412 04-26-2007 07:56 PM

Yea that blows! Your a good guy for all of your work. Contact the real guys , I'm sure they could use your help.

hillbilly24 04-26-2007 10:25 PM

Cut and paste from Earthrace's website,

Colin Walker
Colin Walker is a biodiesel expert based in the UK, and is assisting Earthrace with sourcing fuel and sponsorships in the European and Asian areas

I think he might be legit guys.

spk1 04-26-2007 10:29 PM

I know one of their past sponsers, and I will fnd out for sure. If the name is legit.

handfulz28 04-26-2007 10:35 PM

You guys are blowing up for no reason. Where do you get that hotmail.co.uk isn't a valid address? I just googled the f_cking thing and it comes up ok. Besides, the guy put the valid www.earthrace.net address up. I don't "think" it's a scam. Look it up, Microsoft owns "hotmail.co.uk"...sheesh

Earthrace will take help from anybody and everybody. They're offering a 15% cut for anybody who brings them a paying passenger. Maybe this Colin Walker is just somebody looking for a cut, but still helping the big picture. (EDIT: looks like he's legit after all)
I've been following it since middle of last year. Before a certain turn of events I was going to buy a seat on the Panama Canal leg. Sh!t happens and I couldn't put the money there. If I win the lottery I'd buy the whole rest of the trip.

If you REALLY want to help, go on their website and buy a t-shirt, poster, DVD, or follow the list of "7 ways to help Earthrace".

Regardless of whether you give two sh!ts about biodiesel, or the race, or whatever, that boat is just bad@ss. I wish I was there. I'd love to be on the leg riding through the Suez Canal and across the Med.

Nah, my guess is "jack" might just like to stir things up. He's got 4 posts as of my writing, 3 in this thread and one RE: diesel boats designed by an aussie.
When Colin wakes up in a few hours he'll probably come on to back himself up.

spk1 04-26-2007 11:10 PM

I will find out for sure tomorrow, I have to react quicky just incase because I take my word pretty seriously. If he is legit, I will find out tomorrow, my investigative work, is in process. No worries,, I really hope he is, seemed like a nice guy. :drink:

jack412 04-26-2007 11:23 PM

...tell them what you're doing and ask if Colin Walker is part of their operation. If your phone numbers match, then that should tell you if he's legit.

If you're successful in helping these guys along on a badazz journey, more power to ya, Bro.

Good luck,
Brian

My most recent information supports the fact that collin (earthrace) is legit. I am still waiting for a little more information, but things are checking out for him. Sorry for the confusion collin.

Earthrace clarification ...

Hello fellow enthusiasts and supporters,

I was just brought up to speed on the below thread and wanted to clear the waters for everyone. Colin Walker is a legitimate supporter of the Earthrace cause. As some of you may know we plan on a promotional tour in Europe and Asia after the world record attempt and we are fostering relationships around the globe. Colin has sourced fuel for Earthrace in India and has indirectly helped us secure fuel for Oman, 2 of the most difficult fuel stops logistically and financially.

Please treat Colin as an equal member of this forum, he is doing his best, as many Earthrace supporters around the globe, to be a more significant contributor to the cause. If there was a misunderstanding on the legitimacy of his request and approach to the forum, let's squelch that now and work together to support a great cause.

If I have not introduced myslef properly on previous Earthrace threads via offshoreonly.com, please allow me to do so. My name is David Perez and I am a ground crew member for the Earthrace world record attempt responsible for race leg sponsorship. I have been supporting the project since October of 2006 and own the 2007 FlexFuel Chevy Tahoe that you may have seen dressed from roof to rocker panel in custom Earthrace graphics. I can't post pics on this forum yet, but you can see some photos via myspace ... and you don't have to tell me, I know it's lame ;-):

http://www.myspace.com/njythrde

You can also see my Earthrace team member profile here:

http://earthrace.net/index.php?section=84

To the good stuff ... Earthrace is is need of support. As Colin mentioned, our fuel for the race was arranged many months ago and a key sponsor unfortunately was unable to continue their support for Earthrace due to financial challenges within their company. We appreciate all that they have done for the cause and look forward to a possible partnership in the future. No worries, these things happen. With the millions in sponsorship and support already secured the past few years, not starting the race was not an option, we must continue with our goal and fulfill our commitments ... it is integrity and determination that drives Earthrace. The team we have is competent and resourceful despite all of using being unpaid volunteers. In less than 2 months we secured enough financial support and sponsorships to start the first 3 legs of the race and have been overcoming obstacles ever since to contunue in our quest.

The unfortunate events of recent have hit the bank account hard, thus the financial burden has increased at a rate faster that our ability to raise continued funds, thus our predicament. Simply, we need financial support to pay for unsponsored fuel in Koror, $15K woth, or Earthrace will be stuck there after engine repairs. With an estimated departure of Sunday April 29th, that leaves us only a few days to get back on track.

I am authorizing 50% off the requested race leg sponsorship right now. That's only U$5,000 per person for an opportunity of a lifetime ! With this offer the commission opportunity can no longer be supported. Note sponsorship specifics in the below link:

http://earthrace.helloworld.co.nz/index.php?section=63

With the next 5 legs needing 2 sponsored crew each, that will bring in $50K and give us the boost we need to finish this race, and most importantly, bring much needed awareness to the viability of renewable fuels.

All of the offshoreonly.com pollulation has an opportunity to make world record history and be a part of an amazing journey and documentary series being recorded in High Definition ! All you have to do is get involved and focus on all that is to gain from such an experience before the opportunity is gone.

Please reach me if you like to discuss the project, sponsorship or just have a discussion, we welcome all. I await your response with much anticipation.

Cheers,

David Perez
