Outerlimits doing good in P1
P1 TIME TRIAL REACHES OUTERLIMITS!
US manufacturer's team Outerlimits Powerboats took top honours and their first P1 victory in the dying seconds of the Powerboat P1 Time Trial, slicing two tenths off the time of Wettpunkt.com It was a race of skill and power as the boats battled against the clock with Austrian Hannes Bohinc setting the benchmark at 48.88 seconds, three tenths ahead of the Mercury powered Americans, at the end of the first run into the crowd-lined harbour. In SuperSport, Briton's Jackie Hunt and Mike Shelton set a blistering pace, posting a first run of 58.77 seconds, a time that proved difficult to match by their fellow competitors. High seas had forced the cancellation of the second leg of the Powerboat P1 Maltese Grand Prix of the Sea. Conditions outside of Valletta Harbour were considered dangerous enough not to put teams and safety crews at risk and the time trial initiative within the harbour walls was introduced to reward the large crowds with a show. The Powerboat P1 World Championship now heads to Naples for the Italian Grand Prix of the Sea on the 26 â€" 27 May 2007 when crowds will be treated to another drama-packed weekend of racing. 2007 Powerboat P1 World Championship Maltese Grand Prix of the Sea - Time Trial Results Evolution Class Pos. - No. - Boat Name - Nationality - Time 1. - Outerlimits - American - 0:48:68s 2. - 81 - Wettpunkt.com â€" Austrian - 0:48:68s 3. - 64 - Fainplast - Italian - 0:52:46s 4. - 90 - Kiton - Italian - 0:53:57s 5. - 88 - OSG Racing - Italian - 0:57:59s |

Nice job Mike & Joe !
It's got to be great to come away with a win the 1st weekend of the season! Competition there looks fierce with so little time separation. :drink: Full story here: http://www.powerboatp1.com/public/read_news.asp?id=243 |

here you go.
Or, to put it another way, they got their arses spanked by a Donzi!!!!!! |
It's not misleading at all...
They came from last place to 1st place in the 1st race prior to breaking a waterpump housing causing them to shut down 1 engine. Race Two according to Powerboat P1, Outerlimits came in 1st: Evolution Class - Race Two Pos. No. Team Name Nat. Pts. 1 97 Outerlimits Powerboats USA 10 2 81 Wettpunkt.com Austrian 10 3 64 Metamarine Corse Italian 10 4 90 Trident Corse Italian 10 5 88 OSG Racing Italian 10 As many say around here, "A win is a win !" But at least they had several boats to compete against... |
Of course it's misleading, and you know it! :D
Race 1, they got a DNF and zero points. Race 2, they got 1st place and 10 points, same as the rest of the fleet. So at the end of the weekends racing they amassed 10 points, and the Donzi has 110 points. As many say around here, they got their arses spanked!!!!! |

If they can't win (consistently) here in the good 'ole USA, might as well pack up and try again. Nice to see the the dollars being pi$$ed away in another country.
I mean really where does it come from? why are you so sour and bitter? Do you need a hug from Fiore? Did an OL owner steal your wife or girlfriend? Piss in your cherrios? Wash you down on a poker run? Do you honestly know how dumb you look comparing an Beak boat to the quality of an OL ? C'on man... your beak boat is one tier above a Baja...give it a rest already.... |
I gotta agree here. I look on that website and I see a bunch of teams from Italy, austria, Great Brittain, etc.
Then I see one team from USA. Put aside your petty chevy vs. ford attitude and look at it like USA vs. Europe. I know who i'm rooting for. I commend those guys for having the guts to go over there and take a shot at the Europeans. That is a BIG risk their taking on both financially and with their egos. I have zero ties to OL, but I'm 100% behind them in this. |

Tought so....
We are all about throwing this "Worlds Fastest V-bottom Bottom" and we are the best, latest, greatest until someone calls your bluff  |
Is Wettpunkt still equipped with Isotta Fraschini diesels?

Good Job Mike & Joe. From the looks of the phot gallery on the UIM website, there are some candidates for some Big Air photo's.
Congrats to Jason and Jay for wrenching through the night to get that water pump fixed. |

Don't be a hater. Reggie will find some way to spin an OL victory his way.
Go figure... They criticize OL for only racing against 1 boat in Vegas and 2 boats in Destin. Now they want to criticize them for going after the most competition they can find. That just so happens to be in Powerboat P1 with a "True World Status" and TV coverage. According to their website: 10 boats registered for the Evolution Class from 6 different countries. From what I have read, OL hasn't pulled the plug completely in the States. They just want to see more competition show up at the races. The F supporters want to all say they ran off scared. I beg to differ. What is their excuse for all of the other Fountains that failed to show up for the Super Vee Class in OSS ? Don't tell me that their boats aren't competitive. Per Martin's comments in Pickwick, Little r pulled all the weight out of Miccosukee and was running the same speeds that Wazzup ran the year before. Maybe that doesn't say much for their improvements over the past year, or Wazzup really dialed the boat in a whole lot better than the factory ever could ? Lisa said in Pickwick that she'll be back! By then hopefully Bad Boys will be ready and Fury will show up with some Muscle too. Till that happens, I don't blame OL for not wanting to go out for exhibition laps. 2 Fountains were missing from this 1st race in Powerboat P1 ? Was it they wanted to see what OL had before they decided to compete against them in another country? Hopefully they can make it to the next race! Can't wait to see how much that padded bottom can take in 15 to 16 foot seas! :evilb: |
From what I saw the Outlerlimits boat was running pretty well in the first race right up until they blew a water pump.
These were pretty big seas, reaching 5-6m (yep 25ft) in some places (I was racing too, so I know). They were up against much longer (43ft) Diesel boats with 1,700hp each and the Donzi with Sterling petrol engines. Even tho they didn't complete the Endurance race, they proved during the time trials on the sunday that the boat was on the pace by beating all the Diesels and the Donzi. Not a bad first outing. The Fountains should be out in Naples (26/27 May) so we should see some great racing! Nice to see the Americans competing in P1! |

5-6 meter seas sounds pretty rough to me. Do you have any idea how fast the boats can go in such rough conditions ?
Most of the time we could get on top of it, but in some of the head sea that was big, you had to back off to keep it level. |

i comend joe and mike for going over there and showing them what were made of keep up the good work guys were all behind ya give em hell mikey
