Jim, thanks for posting that picture. As I scrolled down the thread and saw the picture of SAVAGE it kinda caught me by surprise and certainly got my attention. I rode in that boat countless times and haven't seen her for many years, and that picture really brings back the memories.

I have never riden in such big nasty water (6-8 footers) doing at least 80+MPH as I have in that 38' Cougar while we were running against Carl's 41' Apache "WARHAWK" on our way up to Saugatuck on a Saturday morning I think it was in 1989. Ask Carl, he will tell you. He and his crew had their helmets on! That was first time Jimmy had supercharged engines in his boat. Anyway, I could hardly believe how well that Cougar handled water like that at the kind of speeds we were doing.

Thanks for posting that pic, do you have any more?? we'd love to see em.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did you buy the boat from a guy that worked at Chicago Yaght yard named Bert?? Back in 01 he was trying to sell me some 4 blade Rolla props, and he said that he previously owned Savage, and that he bought it from Jim Areola, but could not afford to maintain it, so he sold it. Are you the person that bought it from him?? Just curious, cause he had many pics of it on his wall, but I never remember seeing him ever running it, that's all.

Jim, if you have it ready to splash for this summer, you really should bring it to the Chicago Poker run in july, we'd love to see you there with it.

Frank

I always remember seeing it there back in the late 80's and early 90's. Seen it a couple years back in a boat yard on the river, just a little bit east of Chicago Yaght yard, next to Prarie Concrete plant.
Thought Bart owned Savage back in the real late 90's, so he said.

Yup, bought it back in '01. Man has it been that long? Not too much mechanical that I have not redone. Getting closer, dash is almost done. Plates go to the powdercoater next week.

"Thanks for posting that pic, do you have any more?? " 10x how many you want? Good thing for digital cameras or I would be broke by now developing all the progress shots I have taken. Doing most everything myself which is why it is taking me so long.

Chicago Poker run would be fun!! Hope to have it up at Boyne as a bar hopper with Nykamp, saving his big dog for the run!!!
