Same here Mike.... We enjoyed seeing you as well.

You can put some perspective on this since you have a background in offshore racing and are currently learning the ropes with a Jersey Skiff.

Do you see my point regarding the societal changes that may make a more unified race boat concept viable? To me a meeting of the collective boat racing minds is far preferable to divided micro classes and/or nothing at all.

More food for thought.........

Many years ago the OPC and Inboard divisions put on a joint race from Miami to Palm Beach and back........

The result:

I count over 80 boats in this photo alone...and that was not the entire fleet.

Maybe this is what a boat race should look like?

By the way...guess who's driving #201 in the bottom picture?

...or maybe not.

With only a couple guys chatting back and forth on this one, doesn't look like the interest is there. The scream-and-fly or hotboat guys may be more interested.

I don't see a whole lot of offshore boats in those pics. Maybe that's the problem.

I believe the biggest obstacle to racing like the scenes above today is very few people R-e-e-e-e-ely actually want to race heads up in a truly level playing field.

The shame of it is..... This is precisely what the random spectator wants to see.

The "problem" isn't the boat designs or lengths... it's the lack of a common ground and the reduction in true racers. Maybe if we abandoned left handed turbine bio fuel classes in favor of a more simple formula progress could be made.

I have often lamented the short sightedness regarding specific classes, hulls or engines. I'm now beginning to think that adherence to terms like "Offshore" or "Jersey Speed" or "Champ boat" may no longer have relevance when everybody is racing on the same pond. I believe the Super Cats are going to race on the Unlimited hydro course in Detroit this year on the same day......... I'm trying to look at that from some angle other than what used to be and trying for what could be.
