Default Need Some Keys Information..

Hey Guys,

Planning a trip to the keys in a couple of weeks and was thinking of making a day trip to Elbow Cay and the Cay Sal Bank area. We will be staying in Marathon for a week. Can anyone shed some light on the trip? Places to go, not to go, weather conditions, etc.

Anyone made this trip? Gonna have the kids with me so I won't go if the weather is not right, but want to make sure I have my ducks in a row and make a good day out of it. Good snorkeling locations would be great as well.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Jack

What are you looking to do in Cay Sal ? There is a whole lot of nothing there and the last time we were there we were boarded by the Coasties twice.

Bentleys has been sold and IMO the food quality is not the same.

In the Marathon area you can eat at Water Edge on Duck Key mm61, Mike's Hide Away Cafe (adult) in Grassy Key mm60, Cabana Breezes( on the ocean) and Key Colony Inn on Key Colony Beach mm54. Marathon has Barracuda Grill, Butterfly Cafe and Castaways. For rain days Turtle Hospital in Marathon or Indies club at Hawks Cay on Duck Key. You can also try the World Wide Sportsman in Islamorada for shopping lots for the kids to see.

Bently's is not the same. The best place in my opinon for a real relaxing lunch or dinner with excellent food is Island Grill. Island Grill is right on the Atlantic side at MM85.5, If you sat closer to the water you would be wet!

When you go across the Gulf Stream go early early in the morning!

I stayed at duck key.
Took my 2kids(8&6) on a jet ski tour.
It was just us and the tour guide.
They loved it.

Some of the best snorkeling around is at Pennakamp State Park off of Largo.
If you are looking for a trip of about the same length as CaySal with out contending with the Gulfstream ,going to Fort Jefferson is a cool site to see and there is great snorkeling there also. You can camp there also if you want to spend a nite.
