Fastest 30 Foot Single

What is the fastest 28-30 foot single out there in a standard V or deep V,and or a Twin Step hull configuration? I am looking at possibly selling my 27 foot Virage twin step with a MPI 502 to jump into a 30 foot single. I'm not sure if I should stay with the Virage and just supercharge and have the boat wrapped in a wild desighn, or step up in size. I have never had a problem with the virage, well besides a cracked windsheild on my passenger side that a friend desided to bust his butt on...Still trying to find a replacement for that one... I want to stay with a single due to the easy access to the motor as well as fuel consuption. I would like to have a 30 footer that would run in the 73-80 range if possible with relibility being the major factor.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Activator or Superboat are going to be the fastest. Low seventys in not too much to expect form a large single with at around 500 horse. It depends of what you are looking for and how much $ you want to spend, there are alot of nice boats that you could look at. Do a search there are alot of threads on this topic, the bottom line is how much cash you want to spend.

28 Sunsation
28 Active Thunder
28 Pantera
28 Nordic ( I have owned one)
28 Checkmate ( I have owned one)
28 Cig
28 Saber

The new 30' Adrenaline might be your winner or at minimum a serious contender. I have seen (2) of these in person and they are incredibly well built and beautiful.

If I didn't already have a 30' boat with twins that I love, it would be my next boat for sure.

Brian N 05-22-2007 06:05 PM

My price range would dictate a used performace boat in the price range of 50-65K. I have been leaning toward a 29 Fountain, another Twin step similiar in sense to my Virage 27. Based on the number of members with the vast experience I have observed, maybe you all can show me the way.. Move up in size, or Mod what ya have:cool: Thanks again for the feedback

TexomaPowerboater 05-22-2007 06:31 PM

For speed I would go with the 29 fountain.

For price and rough water abitlity- I'd go with the 28 Saber

For an all out badazz mamma jamma - 28 PANTERA - voted #1 rough water 28 ft boat by OSO- do your research. kinda of bias though - I hope to buy one very soon. :D

SuperboatY2K
Sunsation 32 Dominator (Single, there are only 5 or so in existence.)
28 Active Thunder is a BIG 28. Its a conventional straight V-bottom (for now), but will run 75 and maybe a few ticks more with a 525EFI.

The Y2K is 30' w/ swim platform.
The Sunsation Dominator is 32' w/ swim platform.
The Active Thunder is 28 Feet before you bolt on a swim platform at your option.

McGary911 05-22-2007 07:07 PM

I'd have Velocity on my short list

I agree w/ pure energy. That is just what i was thinking.
Need more speed, pull the power and send it to raylar. too easy.
And the y2k is 30 + a platform.

WesSmith 05-23-2007 08:50 AM

I'd have to say Lightspeed's Kryptonite is an outstanding deal.

The boats are great in the rough as well.

Thanks for the info. What would you suggest for a 502 MPI? Heads, Cam, Intake, Injectors,Exhaust, 1.8 RR, or just look for a supercharger (Vortec, Procharger setup)?

I Agree with you guy's... That Kryptonite is one nice rig!! Just alittle outta my price range. I am unsure of what my rig would bring in the current market. As you can see, I am truly torn between moding what I have, and looking for a different rig......:( Thanks again for all of the insight!

This is about 3 weeks from hitting the water. It is going to be a 525efi. Stay tunned, it may surprise. And disregard the shop trailer.

Pantera24 05-23-2007 12:14 PM

That Tuff 28 is gorgeous!! I've always loved the 21, but that 28 is just SWEET.
More PICS please of any and all 28 Tuff

Really good I/O pics will be coming as soon as it hits the water.

Until then you must imagine these pics without the motors hanging off the back

Michael1 05-23-2007 12:46 PM

I've been looking at a few. Laveycraft 2750 (28'6" with swim platform, which is how most builders are measuring these days) did 71 mph with 496 Mag HO in PB magazine. Also Velocity 290 is in that range.

Twin OB instead of single I/O?

TUFFboat, your boats are pretty dang cool!!

The reason for a single I/O is because twin I/Os weigh a ton (literally!) and are expensive and painful to service.

Outboards are light and cheap to service. So I woudl guess twin outboards would probably be faster and cheaper to own than a single I/O. What do you think?

Crash.. In my case, the twin O/B and bracket weighs about the same as the 525. The HP of the twin 250xs are more like 260hp x2 which is about the same as the 525. The weight is shifted a little more forward (so we did a notch) but with all that being said, there is the savings of one gearcase worth of drag eliminated from the equation. That twin ran 90.1 mph so the 525 could be faster than that. We will see if I'm right or wrong in about 3 weeks.

Price with those two examples are also about the same. I like both versions, but everyone up here is waiting for their ride in the I/O boat.

My bad. Thanks for the correction. Must be the morphine and all these nurses swarming all over me.

http://www.superboatonline.com/30p.html

That's one bad boat.

I have tried to convince Pat to build a 30 ft. single engine poker run special with the AVH bottom. It may happen someday, but 37 production is cranking. With all the boats in line, and each time a 'for stock' boat is built, it gets committed to an owner before the rigging begins.
